Hello all,
I recently purchased a used 2001 V70. Since the weather has gotten cold, I have been dealing with a frustrating shift-lock problem. The wagon is an automatic, and it stays stuck in "Park" when you first start the car unless you have some amazing good luck. Sometimes it seems to be associated with the ignition as the key often gets stuck there after having had the shift-lock problem act up. Does anyone have any idea what this could be and if it will be possible to fix without going to a mechanic? I have read references to a "PNP switch" but mostly with regard to older model 850's.

Thanks in advance for an light you may be able to shed on this one!
Tara

Tara

I've had the same problems with my V70. I've taken it to 2 Volvo dealers. ONe told me they couldn't fix it because they couldn't replicate it. The second said they had fixed it but after a couple of months both are back.

If I find out anything useful I'll let you know and ask that you do the same.

Thanks

Larry

Many times owners have had beverages spill on top of the shift panel where it eventually seems to drip onto the key-interlock cable on the shifter. When this happens the cable which has a very light action gets gummed up and can create this problem. Usually this can be cleaned off and it will be fine. I wouldn't put any type of lubricant on there either that might attract dirt or lint later. Another thing to check is the release button on the shifter knob. I have seen some of buttons crack and cause the mechanism to stick.
