My car '95 960 is ready for it's second replacement. 140,000 miles.
Haven't read the manual yet. I'm asking anyone who has done a service on this 92-97 960 to give me a list of things I should pre order so I've got it all before tearing into it.
I'm wondering which pulleys and tensioners and such will probably need to be replaced, and any gaskets or ???? I should buy beforehand. Any suggestions on which belt I should buy. The Dayco sounds better than OEM????

Since you are at the second interval I would change the belt, water pump, Tensioner pulley and idler pulley.

This will save trouble of having trouble later.

I just finished this job on our 96. It was the first replacement so I don't have a parts list for you. I did use the Dayco belt. The instructions I followed were at
http://www.swedishbricks.net and they were pretty good. If you follow the instructions, that don't require removing the damper, I do encourage you to use paint marks liberally as you might want to count belt teeth between your marks. Also, do remove the electric fan -- just fan, not shroud, counter to his instructions.
As for parts.... The belt is critical and not very expensive. If you replace the other items when they don't need to be replaced now, you save yourself about 90 minutes when you do need to replace something like the waterpump or an idler. It's up to you and how long you will own the car. I would look very closely at the timing belt tensioner.

The water pump is not driven by the timing belt so i wouldn't bother with replaceing it if it is not leaking. However at second interval replace the hydrulic tensioner, tensioner pulley and idler pulley.

OK, I just replaced my timing belt.
I did order a new tensioner before I started.
After 140,000 miles the pulleys were in great shape.
And the water pump, looked good also.
Oh by the way, someone said the water pump isn't driven by the timing belt.
On my 960 it is.
This job was so easy, I figured I'll replace the pump and or pulleys when/if I need to later.
I'm glad I didn't pay someone to do this. It took about 2 hours. and I'm sure I can do it faster next time, .....if I still have the car.
