ok i know the answer to this, however its the placement of it which is the question.

my horn has packed in, so i installed a new one, and new fuse to no avail. i was thinking of just installing a switch in a gap in the dashboard and wiring it to the new horn via the fusepanel etc.

would this pass MOT?

Did you wire the new horn up to existing wiring etc?

If so, you could be looking at a faulty relay.

i was thinking faulty relay as usually electric circuits contain a fuse, a relay, a switch and the item being powered. however in the haynes manual i cant seem to find any relays whatsoever!

There's one in the horn cct somewhere, not sure where it is though.

If you call a volvo dealer for a relay price, they should be able to point you in the right direction. (They are more forthcoming with info if they think you're going to buy somthing).

Let us know how you get on.

 relays for most of the systems are in the main fuse box beside the near side upper suspension mount. the other is inside someplace. i'm sure the horn is in the main one.

 I'm sure there isn't a relay in the horn circuit Paul, only a switch on the steering wheel and a fuse to protect the circuit.

If the fuse is good & the horn itself is a new unit, then barring a wiring fault that only leaves the horn switch in the steering wheel that could be knackered - maybe you lean on it a bit too often?!!!

Use caution if a driver's airbag is fitted (your Haynes manual should see you through it).

Hope it gets through the MOT mate.

i know however this is simply because i have ran out of room. me and the mrs just had a nipper, and as we now need a bigger house (and have one) i have no garage! so a SORN car is just not worth the hassle of having it on the road.

it is on ebay also here:

if anyone is interested.

Dumbaton eh?

I worked around there for a few months about two years back, working on digital upgrades for ntl. Used to lodge in the Duntocher Hotel, I think I spelt it wrong but you'll know what I mean.
Loved it up there. Had a great time.

Good luck with the new house and all.
