hi all, im just about to put my 440 in for its test when i tried the horn and got nothing.

i have checked the fusepanel (its a 96 so its on the drivers side in the footwell)
on top of this there are no panel lights except for hazard warning and the speedo/rev counter/console etc.
i am also getting a bulb failure indication on the dash.

the question is, could there be a bulb out somewhere (like the boot) which would affect these other two things? the bulbs on the panel are fine, however they just refuse to light up.

i just wondered if its like christmas tree lights, running in series. if one goes out ot affects the lot!?!?

I have had a problem with the horn....it affected the front lights, wiper washer fluid. I suggest you take it to a garage and get it fixed....it could be a relay, short circuit or a bad earthing point.

The bulbs are not in series (well i don't think) if one goes you replace it (like the headlights) and the others wont be affected.

im just worried about getting fleeced for something simple getting fixed. i have tried all the fuses, theyre all fine.
is there a list somewhere of relay positions throughout the car? my rover has soem in the boot, some under the bonnet and some inside the console.

I recently had a problem with my 96 440 and the horn. After much crawling around under the car i found that the cabling for the horn and other bits and pieces run in a channel down the back of the fan. It then curls under to the fron of the car towards the horn. I found that the side of the channel had completely rubbed through the wiring loom an thus all of the wires were exposed to the elements, eventually corroding away and breaking the connection. Have a look at yours it could be the same problem.
