jdred,

Did you use a guide or photos or anything?

I'm still looking online, and I've found a few other forums and places where they have a few scattered discussions on it, but it's so hard to find anything concrete, especially with pictures describing the process.

Any hints?

Thanks ahead of time :)

i have added the dension unit to my 2004.5 s40 t5, wow the sound is awesome, totally crisp, no hum or hiss like with the modulator
heres my other post in another forum with some pics

heres some pickies

one thing to note i did experience problems when the dip switches were set to 1 and 4 on causing the car to shut down and then only display the splash screen and then go off.

when i changed the dip switches to 2 and 4 as per the xc90 config, i had no problems as the photos show, so i dont know why they were telling everyone to change.

if your not confident taking your car apart i would not recomend you try this install, if you have some experience then there should be no problems

So how is this dension unit connected to the volvo radio head unit? Antenna connection (modulator) or hard wiring of some sort?

Higgins, thank you so much for the pics and for a confirmation of it working on the US S40s.

Gregoire, this is hard wired through the optical in our car, so there is no modulation whatsoever. It works through the CD changer.

The only thing I'm wondering is how do you switch between the AUX and the CD changer then, since they both presumably use the same optical channel?

I followed the forum where the denison unit was discussed, and was very interested, and then started hearing that it didn't actually work for anyone's cars, because it wasn't spec.ed to the US cars or something, and everyone was getting scared and pissed off because they just spent $500 or whatever it was and it wasn't working.

I'm very very excited to see that it's working, however whether or not I can at some point justify spending $500 for an aux jack is a whole other question. Right now I got my satellite radio free and it's service, and I wired the whole thing up myself, so I'm at $0. I'll wait to see more people's experiences with the Denison unit before I take the plunge, if I've ever got the $$$ for it.

Also, could anyone PM me the links to other popular S40 forums, since it's not much use to google it as you get 50,000 different forums with each having like 10 members? I wish there was one central forum where everyone could work together :/

Hi from a newbie and prospective S40 owner. I've been following the "aux in" discussions.

Higgins' post was real encouraging until I noticed that he's outside of the US (Gatwick). So the info is consistent with US types not being able to get it to work, but the (non-US) Dension manufacturer claiming it does work. I hope this gets resolved as I know from my Dad's old 2005 V50, that the stereo doesn't play burned (wav) CD's well, and I really live off of MP3 music (which I'd convert to wav to burn a CD if that worked). The S40 I'm looking at doesn't have the CD changer, so even if they get the Dension unit working on US models, I think I'd have to get Tampa Volvo to upgrade my software for the Dension emulated CD.

hi, in response to your question, when a usb device is inserted into the extender cable then it auto senses that it is connected and will therefore switch over to usb.

Ericzombie,

No guides used or really needed once we were brave enough to pop and remove some of the dash areas cover panels. The fm antenna connection panel was easily made beside the drivers left foot panel. the audiovox was stashed behind underneath the steering columm area panel. We popped the panels underneath the key area andunderneath the radio to route and hide the wiring. The audiovox comes with a wiring diagram as does the IPOD controller. We easily found a wire to tap power and ground. Any questions I haven't answered, drop me a line......it was not very difficult once we got started.

http://forums.swedespeed.com/zeroforum?id=54 is a popular forum for S40s. Someone linked to this post since we have trouble with the Denison in the US, and it's good to know it works for at least one person.

There are some more forums on Swedespeed, for pretty much any Volvo model.
