Volvo Brother,
It is the transponder on the transmision. I just had the same problem. It also can be a fualy ground or (other ) electrical conection to the unit.
Hope this helps you!

There is no transponder on the transmission, however, I have been told its the sensor plug on the differential which can easily get dirty/contaminated, I just have to work out how to get to the thing, it looks like a complete suspension removal to gain access, I think I'm going to need half a day and a hoist.

dear john , the sensor plug is at the back axle, you can easily reach it at the back axle where the nut to top up gear oil located. You may need to jack the car up a bit to get easy excess. So have you solve your meter problem ??

By the way I am trying to fix a broken 940 speedometer, I got this one from a shop, and I hope I can fix it...

SA6, I saw a 940 speedo in Banu's place and I think it is working. Owner beli kereta potong for engine conversion so maybe can get at harga potong from him.

Hi liancy, thanks for the infor. Any working condition speedometer is worth some money so I doubt the owner will give away free unless you know the owner. As for Banu, he might as well keep and sell it to some other customer later....

Mine actually still running but worry it might not be moving at all one day. I did manage to changed some of the capacitors of my current meter. However the problem still remain. I think the 2 main IC need to be change !! I have done a sreach, the IC is not avaialble in malaysia or Singapore !!!!! so need to place from other country liow......
