I have a 2001 S80 T6 with 17,500 miles.

I've noticed this more when first driven (after being parked in cold weather) and at slower speeds, but there seems to be a significant rattle/creaking sound somewhere from the dash forward on the passenger side of the car.

I have no idea where it is coming from.

Any ideas?

Could be your ABS module self-checking. This occurs around 12-15 mph and sounds like a "spring".

could be the car is sore from sitting around so much. 17,500 miles for a 2001?! nice.

My 2000 S80 had a similar problem and I ended up having the strut 'tops' replaced. Seemed to take care of it.

It could be your rear subframe mounts and bushes. Volvo issued an O ring to solve the problem that you can easily retrofit. They go between the subframe and the car frame and reduce the "creaking" noise. They are about US$10 each

if its a creak like an old wodden door, might be the O-rings on you rear subframe.
easy fix cheap parts but expensive labour
