I have an 03 S40 and am looking to swap out the CD player and the speakers (they are the stock ones) for a new cd player (pioneer or alpine) and some new speakers and a sub.

I went into best buy a little while ago and they said they weren't sure if they could do it because the cd player on the s40 isn't the standard size. is this true or have people had experience with best buy replacing cd players on the s40? If they don't, any idea where I should look for a place that would be able to do the install for me? (I'm in Boston)

I haven't really done much work on cars so I don't know if I'd be comfortable doing the speakers/cd player myself, but if it's not that bad and if someone could point me to information on how to do that I'd appreciate it. I guess I'm looking for opinions on what my best option would be.

thanks!

I was able to install the radio part on my own pretty easy. My suggestion would be to go through crutchfield.com and find the system you want. They allow to enter in all the cars info and search from there huge list to choose from. If you don't wanna put it on your self at least you know which models to choose from.

I have a 00 s40, not sure if it has the same configuration dash as you but I would assume so.

I fitted a single DIN Eclipse deck in my car without any dramas whatsoever and got an insert for the bottom DIN which is essentially a pocket.

I'm in Australia tho so I wouldn't be able to recommend any installers where you are.

I am installing an aftermarket cd player in my 2000 S40. Do you know if I have to replace the stock speakers as well because of the impedance? Thanks! :liebe011:

you don't really have to replace the stock speakers. they would probably enjoy more power from the aftermarket deck. However, with everything stock, its made to a cost so you can only expect it to perform to a certain level. I replaced my speakers at the front with MB Quart splits and they sound beautiful amped up. However, I still run stock speakers in the rear.
