hi,

few days ago i bought a 93 850GLT. the previous owner did not specify all the problems to me in the car.

could someone help me with DIYs with these:

- dashboard, stereo & console lights not working after washing the car (the fuse box cap wasn't there, later bought it for $30 from dealer. it was nothing but a flat piece of plastic! rip off!)

- fuses are missing, don't know which one is for what. doesn't say anything behind fuse box cap

- power mirrors not working

- both seat heating doesn't work

- ABS light always on

- low mpg around 18-20 (is this normal for a '93 850?) how do i fix this?

- and worst of all, the heating system isn't working at all. not even the blower. there is hardly any airflow when i switch on the heater. the heater hose has been cut (don't know for what reasons, but i guess it was to bypass the heater). you can imagine my plight as it's already snowing here! :(

thanks

not quite a deal, you need a lot of help.
first step: complete, replace all of your fuses

1 Fuel injection, distributor ignition system, automatic gearbox 15A
2 Fuel pump, alarm 15A
3 Interior courtesy lights, oil level sensor 10A
4 –
5 ECC blower (speed 4) 30A
6 Central locking system 25A
7 Audio system 15A
8 Power antenna, electrical connector for trailer 25A
9 ABS, TRaction Control System 30A
10 –
11 Electrically heated rear window and side-view mirrors 30A
12 Brake lights 10A
13 Hazard warning flashers, headlight flashers 15A
14 ABS, TRaction Control System 30A
15 Audio system, courtesy lights, door open warning lights, glove compartment
light, trunk light, doorstep courtesy light, remote operated central locking system,
oil level sensor 10A
16 Space for optional equipment –
17 Key reminder 10A
18 Heated front seats, power side-view mirrors 25A
19 Left high beam 15A
20 Right high beam, high beam indicator light 15A
21 Left low beam 15A
22 Right low beam 15A
23 Left parking lights, license plate lights 10A
24 Right parking lights 10A
25 Rear fog light, rear fog light indicator light 10A
26 –
27 Backup lights, direction indicators 15A
28 Cruise control, heated rear window, seat belt reminder light,
bulb failure warning sensor, shiftlock 10A
29 ABS, Traction Control System 15A
30 Cigarette lighter 10A
31 ECC blower (speeds 1-3), ECC 25A
32 Audio system 10A
33 Power seat, OBD test socket 15A
34 Wipers/washers, horn 25A
35 Instrument panel lights, TRaction Control System, Power sun roof 10A
36 –
37 Power windows, power sun roof AUT/CB **
38 –
39 Power seat (driver's side) AUT/CB **
40 –

* Some of the equipment/systems listed may be available on certain models only and/or as optional items only.
** This is an automatic circuit breaker located in the fuse box and does not normally need to be replaced.

second part:

starty reading the codes for features not working properly:
pin out are:
A1: Automatic Transmission (gear box)
A2: Fuel system
A3: ABS
A4: -
A5: Tranction Control Unit (TCU)
A6: Ignition
A7: Combined Instruments

B1: ECC (electronic climate control)
B2: cruise control
B3: -
B4: -
B5: SRS (airbags)
B6: Power seats
B7: -
B8: -

for the heating system: plug the fan directly on 12V with the conector that is clamp on himself
if it's working , then the fan is ok, start looking for a resistor fan, aproX 150USD

heating for front seats and the side mirrors view are on the same fuse, start looking there

my 93, 850 GLT take around 11, 11,5 liters /100 km combined city and highway, only in town maximum 12,5 liters/100km (transform and see)

but, the worst of all is nor the heating, is the ABS, must check in a garage, the brakiing system failure are not what you want. start with it

good luck.

don't buy.
the 93 does not use odbc 2, so an ODB reader is useless for this car.
codes can be read from the output, 2 modules (one white, one black, covered with some plastic and a test stick atached on it) located just near the washer devices, front right of your car.

Go to the General section. Up on the sticky's there's a link that Tech has made that applies to you. FInd one on reading the OBD system...

Hope you make it out.

I think Fuses 4 and 10 relates to the Immobiliser.
On the fuse cover flap, items that are 'optional accessories' in your market may be marked with brackets ()...

Haven't checked the others, though.

ABS is certainly important but it's not as if you don't have brakes - you just don't have ABS brakes. I've been driving my 93 GLT for 8 months with the ABS light on. People drove cars for decades before ABS was invented - not a huge deal but you do want to fix it eventually. Read up on the web - there are quite a few things you can do yourself - including cleaning sensors etc that might resolve the issue without big bucks at a garage. Good luck.

That is correct. In fact, most of my advanced-driving friends wouldn't give a shoulder if the ABS conks out.

The ABS is for the average driver, and makes them better drivers...
