Hi, I got my first car today (Volvo 440) from my grandad....its great! its a 96 reg Maroon 440. I just have a few questions:

Where can I get replacement Headlamp Washer Wipers?
Where can I get extra keys cut?
Where can I get rear (left) light?
Where can I get Volvo 440 parts?

Also are the heating and light controls supposed to light up inside? Most probably a bulb has gone? But do they light up?

Thanks!

Hi There,

Is the Light Control switch ment to light up. This is the console on the right hand side of the steering wheel (UK Drive Cars). If so where is the bulb for it? In order to light it up at night.

Also is the fog light and rear window heater supposed to light up as well? If so where is the bulb for it? In order to light it up at night.

Attached is a picture of where I mean.

Regards

Hi Billie
They should all be illuminated, but I'm not too sure how to get at the bulbs on your model.
Sorry.

Hi Billie
Looks like you're struggling for a response here so I'll make a couple of suggestions.
I've never owned a 440 so can't give 100% info.

Your rear heated window / foglight switches should be illuminated when you turn your lights on. The bulb lighting them will be behind them somewhere, you will probably find you'll have to remove the panel that house these switches to get access.

As for the headlamp switch, see if you can gently tease out the square insert that the knob and switch is fitted to, a screwdriver will do this, wrap some tape around the end of a flat screwdriver to avoid scratches. If it doesn't feel as if it's going to come out, don't force it.

Additionaly you could get on the phone to a volvo dealers service department, and they are usually generous with information, especialy if they think you want to order a starter motor or somthing. Then ask your question as a "by the way", when they've answered tell them you need to get more quotes before ordering.

Hi,

I have a bit of a problem with my 440. I got it from my grandad..he said when he gave it to me that the car got struck by lightning once and when he went out to see what happened he said that the horn was blowing and the wipers were wipeing and water was coming out of the jets, so he took the fuse out of the fuse box.

I have got the MOT next week and the car wont pass if the horn doesnt work. I have told the man to fix the horn then do a MOT.

Yesterday, I put the fuse back in to the car (fuse 27), and the horn worked so i thought it was fixed. The then you turn the headlights on but the wipers were wiping and water was coming out of the jets, so i unpluged the fuse. But i still have a problem..when i turn the lights on water comes out of the jets (the wipers don't move), so i turn the lights off and it stopped....also if the lights are on and but the full beam on the water stops.

So I was looking in the haynes manual and it said nothing to help me.

I then put the fuse back in and turned the lights on and pressed the horn and the water stopped, so i took the fuse out, turned the lights off...then turn the lights on and it did it again.

Now today, Every time i turn the lights on the dipped beam light come on the near side and only the side light on the off side, but if I wash the screen the off side light main beam comes on.

But if the fuse is out and the headlights are on and then the washers come on, if you press the horn the washer will stop.

Please could someone help! or tell me what the car mechanic will do to fix my car, and how much you think it will cost.

Thanks

Hi There,

Now when I checked my light fuses they had all blown. This is because the water for the wipers is trying to use the headlight fuses.

How do i stop this from happening temporarily? Does the water jet use the headlight fuses anyway? How can i stop this short circuiting from happening.

I dont mind even if i have to switch off the whole water jet thing just until the 19th Dec when it goes in.

Help!!!

Thanks

as i said in the other post check earths, any possible relays or as a last resort trace wiring to see where it has met up somewhere.

just so you know, you only need your fog light switch to light up (or give indication of on/off) to pass an MOT

HI Billie, i have same car as you so i can help you. 1st no that swith doesnt light up. 2nd yes your heater rear window light and fogs are supposed to light up,in fact everything on insturment panel lights up.How to replace bulbs... well you dont need to take your steering wheel off(even though manel says you do)just unscrew 4 screws 2 at top and 2 at bottem of your contrl panel surround. Then lower your steering wheel to max, with the adjuster underneath. Then unscrew 2 screws to undo swiths ie heated window and fogs, then take that out and pull out conections behind it(noting where they go) then there arescrew to take out(to the right of ip) then place a flat end large screw driver to the left of ip wedgeing to the right then forward.this will pull out the ip. You might have to undo your speedo cable from gearbox to allow slack when getting behind you ip. When ip is out there are loads of bulbs behind there which simple twist and pull from there location. There are also 4 larger bulbs which are for ip ilummination. Ive done mine recently so this is how i know.Hope this helps. P.s ip is short for insturment panel.
