I currently have 205/50 r17 tires on my 2005 s40 (sport package). Can I switch to 205/55 r16s for winter tires. volvo villa indicated no - becuase I would screw up the electrical systems, the kms per hour readings and the paint job - is this correct

I dont see why its a problem, if u can plus size, why cant u "minus" size. Your keeping the tire width the same, and with those sizes the overall outside diameter should be about the same.
