Hi there,
I just joined this group and of course already have a question.

I just purchased an iPod adapter from mp3yourcar.com (much cheaper than the Volvo version and will work either manually or in direct mode).
I have a 2005 XC70 (no changer, no cassette, no navigation an HU-650 I believe.
I was wondering if I can easily remove the radio andd install the cable/box myself. I am handy, and have installed manya stereo in older american cars years ago when everything was much simpler and less crowded.

All I really need to do is remove the radio/CD player.
Is this possible or is it so complex I will have to pay a pro installer?

Thanks
eli

Don't know how similar our cars are, but this may be helpful. I have a 2000 S70 and have just removed the radio for installation of an iPod adapter (different brand from yours). Radios are different, but R+R may be similar. On the face of the radio, at the extreme left and right sides of the radio faceplate, are two little rectangular pieces that are about an inch tall and about 1/8th inch wide. The are same color as the radio faceplate so they are not very noticeable unless you look for them. On my car, you push these in with your fingernail or similar "tool." Then they pop out a little (they are spring loaded). Use your fingers to pull them out all the way. They have rings (when partially out of their berths) into which you could put your finger tips to help pull. These unlock the radio from the double DIN slot and allow the radio to be pulled out of its berth on the side rails. Make sure you have a cloth (or cloths) such as a washcloth or hand towel(s) to put into the empty hole in the dash so that the radio does not chip the simulated wood trim. Also, on my car, I set the hand brake and pulled the trans shift lever to full rear position (1st gear) to allow room for the radio to pull out without chipping the shift knob. The radio will now be out of its hole and you will have access to the rear. Re-installation is the reverse of removal. If you do chip anything, a brown Sharpie marker will make the chip (at least small ones) almost go away.

BTW, the iPod sounds great in the car. And a very compact way to bring along 500 or 600 songs for very high quality reproduction. I use Apple Lossless encoding for the songs I like best instead of AAC or MP3 but I can hear the difference. So the 20 gig on the iPod only allows me to take along hundreds of songs instead of thousands if I used MP3. I can live with that.
