Hiya Guys. I promise not to be as long winded in this posting, but I did notice a few postings, I thought that I would do a run-down of my work area.

AMP.. I loves the blue responses you left silverlilly in a previous posting.

Quick History: I bought my first Volvo used, 1994 V850 turbo. I realized I missed some details in my welcome posting. 154k miles, $2k, beautiful car, love her, she needs some TLC. Since this is my very first car, please allow a little handicap if I don’t have the terminology correct. This list is also not in priority order.

Here goes…

1) Spare tire MIA – Done, baught, replaced with true Volvo replacement part!
• JY baby!*
2) Radio, harness was cut off by thieves to make off with after market radio. I have stock SC810.
• Audio system will be rewired. I have found good cheap labor. I know, dealer for security code.
3) Trunk lid struts. Posted just previously, will check that thread too.
4) Leather seats. Badly dried out, cracking and 1 tare on drivers seat. Switch will need replacing too, NP, I found that part.
5) Horrible metal racket, front right side. I try to avoid every pothole I see with that wheel. I have been told shocks, maybe bushings *unprofessionally*
6) Oil Pan plug stripped. *Replaced for Volvo part, $6.25.*
7) All fluids need changing…. *Duh. I think this is a no brainer.*
8) Dash rattles with every pothole. I think changing out will be required. I have made due diligence to replace US Philips screws replaced with proper torque screws. *Damage is still done*
9) Really annoying drivers window hesitation. *I replaced the slide guides, and the clips, about half way down, there is 2 second delay.*
10) Brakes. New pads, squeaked at first, now, the entire car ‘vibrates’ until stop. Don’t know about rotors, but pads are brand new.

There are other little odd and ends things, I I want to change the gear shifter (automatic) for one that has full foam covering, don’t know how to get the darn thing off.

The Upside:

1) Great looking car. *I will post preowned pics and my restoration pics soon*
2) My next car will be another Volvo. Volvo has learned that ‘boxy’ isn’t sexy, but safety can be very stylish.
3) I learn new thing about my first car every day! I want to maintain her, show her the live that she was always designed for.

Thank you for any help you guys can offer, this car will live on to 300k miles! She’s a beaut, and I will prove grace come with age.

Still long winded.

Driver side door... opens and closes just fine. just doesn't stay open or closed. I know there is something missing from the body, obivous void, just not sure how to addres this problem.

The noise might be the upper spring seats. You can check by trying to turn the nut under the hood on the top of the strut.

The dash is most likely the mounting tabs to the firewall broke.

Motor might be going bad.

I would say you have Warped rotors.

Thank you tech! I have been pouring through forums to learn and hopefully not sound like an ****.
Thus far, I have read how to get to the mounting tabs, I will get to it at some point.
Nearly every single bulb is out, I am working on this. Even in the switches. I got the part number javascript:emoticon(':)')

I hope the motor isn't going bad. What makes you think so?

I am going to take it to a shop to have the front end looked at. Could it be the swaybar? When I hit a pot hole, there is metal rattling right side, near front wheel.

Finally, I would tend to agree with you on the rotors. I have no idea how much that costs, If I can do it?!? I can tell it is deffinately coming from the rear. Will I damage anything if I wait on changing these out?

Thank you so much, I feel like I am accomplishing something with my first car!! javascript:emoticon('')

With the motor I am talking about the window motor. ( I should have specified that)

It could be the sway bar links also pretty easy to check. Jack the car up and put it on jackstands.climb under the car and pull on the sway bar and feel for a clunking or a little bit of play.

The rotors are easy to replace should take you about an hour to replace. It won't damage anything it will just be annoying to you.

window motor A-ok.

I fixed that problem completely up. The inside door channel makes a huge difference.

Tomorrow I am taking MY car to a shop. I don't feel confidend in touching the major stiff just yet. My bid thing, I want a dependable car that can get me home from work in the cold.

P.S. - I fixed the glove bulb all by myself!! WooHoo!

Nice.

2) Radio, harness was cut off by thieves to make off with after market radio. I have stock SC810.

Sounds good.

3) Trunk lid struts. Posted just previously, will check that thread too.
If you are planning to DIY, then please go for the posting. It's quite straightforward.

4) Leather seats. Badly dried out, cracking and 1 tare on drivers seat. Switch will need replacing too, NP, I found that part.
If you plan to keep the seats for now, get the leather care spray to avoid further cracking of the leather. May need some work and some time for it to set in. But once done, you MAY be pleasantly surprised. I do not have any brands in mind as of present but most of the good ones could do the trick.

5) Horrible metal racket, front right side. I try to avoid every pothole I see with that wheel. I have been told shocks, maybe bushings *unprofessionally*
Check bushings first. If the bushings can be replaced, then less $$ outflow. If the arm bushing is bad, or worse the arm itself is bent, then more $$$ outflow. Sometimes, delaying the bushings can cause other probs. Test the shocks to see if they are bad.

6) Oil Pan plug stripped. *Replaced for Volvo part, $6.25.*

Hehehe. For a peace of mind, yes.

8) Dash rattles with every pothole. I think changing out will be required. I have made due diligence to replace US Philips screws replaced with proper torque screws. *Damage is still done*
Just change the clips at the dash. There's a dash repair kit sold in the US, as informed by Tech (da man!). It's a cheaper option.

9) Really annoying drivers window hesitation. *I replaced the slide guides, and the clips, about half way down, there is 2 second delay.*
You could leave this for next 3-months' job. :) Go to your scrapyard and get a used switch or as Tech mentioned, the Window Motor... I do not think it is that difficult to DIY. Have not changed mine though.

10) Brakes. New pads, squeaked at first, now, the entire car ‘vibrates’ until stop. Don’t know about rotors, but pads are brand new.
Rotors MAY be warped. Classic sign. Also try checking the thickness of the rotors against the recommended. It's written on the rotors' hats. If I remember correctly, the front is like 23mm (ventilated, so thicker) and the back is thinner.

There are other little odd and ends things, I I want to change the gear shifter (automatic) for one that has full foam covering, don’t know how to get the darn thing off.
Aaaaah, no problem. Just need a lot of power for this. Put the shifter in N and pull the 'darn' thing upwards 90 degrees, FIRMLY and STRONGLY. Might need a smoke / beer / drink or whatever that turns you on first, before this masculine act. Careful not to bump your head against the rear-mirror or you'll end up at the scrap-yards again for a used mirror. :haha: Over time, it may be a bit stuck.

Yes, yes. Update the Garage. A picture (or pictures) speaks a thousand words...

2) My next car will be another Volvo. Volvo has learned that ‘boxy’ isn’t sexy, but safety can be very stylish.
When you hit them or when they hit you, and you survive, they'll know. There's a saying here that we coined, "Volvo hantam kereta lain, mereka KOYAK. Kereta lain hantam Volvo, mereka KOYAK. Volvo hantam Volvo, sama-sama KOYAK". (Read: Volvo hits other cars, other cars go to waste. Other cars hit Volvo, other cars go to waste. Volvo hits Volvo, both of them go to waste. :haha: Holds true for older generation cars, since nowadays, it's becoming suspiciously evident that other makes are toughening theirs.

3) I learn new thing about my first car every day! I want to maintain her, show her the live that she was always designed for.
Ahhh, the first love. The first cherry. (Ooops.)

ENJOY!

Hey I know to fix the vibration problem. If you have just replaced your rotors and pads I would suggest applying the silicone grease before that and see if it solves the problem. It only took me 300 dollars to figure that one out. :)
