As anyone upgraded their sound system on a S40 05 after the fact?

I bought my S40 2005 T5 last august and made a good deal being from the lot. I was thinking of asking my wife to get me the in-dash 6 CD changer + premium sound system as a present but I not sure it's worth doing after the fact.

Is it feasible at a reasonable cost or am I going to pay a lot more than if I had it in the first place? Volvo price it at $895 as an audio premium sound package and at $625 as a Six Disc In-Dash CD Player accessory which probably doesn't upgrade the sound system (I’ll have to check what my current sound system is).

I don't really know either how much the dealer might charge me for the installation. After writing all this down it doesn’t sound too promising…
If anyone has some thought on this let me know.

Greg

I went on Volvo online web site and found out that my performance audio system can’t be upgraded to a premium or prologic system and it seems that I don’t have the possibility to install the 6 CD changer. Does anyone know why that is and what makes those systems not compatible or can’t be upgraded on my S40 05? Does it as to do with the speaker wiring? :hyper:
Thanks in advance…

Greg

I really do not know of the newer system, Greg. But i DO know that the stock sound system is enough to blast the driver out of the car.

Ampangbear,

Yes your are right it is pretty good but sometime I’d like to have the 5CD changer so I don't have to listen to the same CD twice while driving or risk a "mockmuluch" maneuver to change CDs
Thank you anyway!

Grég

:haha:

I know what you mean. But you may need to ask your local accessories store for it, if they have it.

Thanks!

Greg, the biggest problem is that the whole center console would have to be replaced to put the 6 disc changer in. Then you would have to get Volvo to run Fibre to where the additional speakers go (remember no analog wires in the S40), remove the dash and put in a new one to accomadate the center speaker, and change out the trim on the 4 doors to include the extra speakers. Finally you would have to get a new center unit that includes the ProLogic II decoder (which would be the easiest part). I think that you COULD get it done if you were willing to pay the expense but it would be high.

I have the premium sound package and think it is amazing but I don't think I would spend what it would cost to upgrade. Plus who knows what aftermarket stuff will come out in the next couple of years

Cheers
