I guess this bad stigma around volvos and their drivers also exists in the US?

But selective reading helps too. For instance, the only things I got was ...

1) ...he drives a Volvo, the safest car made.
2) ...There are images of Volvos crashing into walls and driving off cliffs, ultimately surviving what would be a knockout blow to most cars
3) ...an attitude of indestructibility,
4) ...Volvo drivers have the confidence to do what ever it takes to get from point A to point B, knowing they will survive
5) ...confidence in their abilities which leads them to buy a Volvo in the first place
6) ...Volvo commercials the spokesman says, "Drive safely."
7) ... and so on...

Is Mr. Young sure that his first name is spelt & pronounced "Kent"? :P

First he calls all Swedish people drunks (and even worse, drunk drivers) & then he brands all Volvo drivers as incompetent. Nice guy!

I drive a Volvo for an awful lot of reasons & one of the most important is to best protect my family & myself from other drivers and the fates that can befall anyone, irrespective of the car they drive, out on the road.

I'll refrain from further comment, otherwise I'll be banned from the forum.....

Doesnt really seem to be any point to the article, other than the writer doesnt like Volvo drivers. No statistics to back-up anything stated. Anyone can write an article with no research.

 i think he's jealous. he probably can't afford a decent car so he strikes out at those who can! it's like my land rover. parked legally on the street, but i still get complaints from people telling me to move my 'piece of £&!£'. why can't they leave us in peace. we drive sensibly (i hope!) below or around the limit at speeds we see fit for the road. the guy's just an impatiant fool who want's to get there faster. they're the ones who drive into things, not volvo drivers only. i find in soggy england ford and bmw drivers are the ones to look out for ( :imsorry: )
as far as i'm concerned we should invite this lost soul into our world and let him see from the inside what it's like. ain't jealousy terrible?

Hehe... OR let him be.

Trying to rationalise things to him is probably sometimes just a lateral move from where he is already in presently (quoted from CSI - Vegas)...

When he matures / grows up, he'll know. It aint the car, it's the driver...

I think what we are seeing here is denial. He is at loggerheads with himself as he is denying himself the pleasures of driving a Volvo and using his caged up emotions to express his revulsion of himself. Or maybe I am just typing words to make it sound as if I know what I am talking about. Now look what he has made me do. :liebe011: and :amen:

he's probably just upset that someone in a stock old 740 passed his little tiny honda civic that he only bought because the price was very high, he likes to watch car racing movies where the little things either get blown up ( by a bomb ) or get destroyed because there no good, or because it had tinted windows and a set of cool looking pedals that will fall off in winter from walmart.

 i think it may be a deep disorder. he had to put up with his parents either being slow drivers, or hating volvos, so took the 'volvo's are old man cars' idea to greater lengths. i myself have been branded when i drove a petrol 440 turbo at the old age of 20! it beat most things off the road so old man? only if schumacher retired! i say let him moan, and sympathise, then belt past him on the motorway in his little import clunker beaming with pride and knowledge our 'old man car' will be eating the miles when his is eaten by rust. i feel quite tetchy now! :haha:

Hey Guys

Thought ud like this edited version

People who drive Volvos can't drive. For years I've been collecting data. Having grown up a child of the freeway, I can say that I've been following general and specific traffic patterns and driving behavior all of my life. 32 years of experience plus a few facts lead me to proclaim that people who drive Volvos can't drive. Hardly a day goes by that I'm not caught in traffic behind someone driving a Volvo at less than 30% of the speed limit, or turning left from the right lane or vice versa. I'll admit that it is not only people who drive Volvos who create potentially hazardous situations on Americas roadways. Yet, in my vast experience, more often than not it is the person driving a Volvo that strikes fear in my heart.

Well Where Do I Start There ...... Hes Just Shot Himself in The Foot By Stating That The Major Cause Of Road Accidents are in a volvo i mean you think about it how many car manufacturers are there in the world? not all volvo drivers drive less than 30% of the speed limit or indicate early or turn left from the right hand side ive been driving volvos neally 10 yrs now and i love them and sure i have a lil fun in my car but only under "Controlled" enviroments and i dont do all those "Apparent" Volvo Driver things hell i even have the hat now thats obsession  and the fact a volvo strikes fear in his heart every time he sees one on the road tells me hes a lil scared of driving himself...

I don't remember when the number of incidents involving Volvos reached a point of saturation, turning what was more or less an unconscious recognition of numerous coincidences into something more. I think it was about seven years ago. The reason I'm vague about the moment at which I realized that my continual close encounters with people who drive Volvos was more than just skewed observation is because I'm sure the recognition of something as profound as this comes about gradually.

This guy is a %(%^$#@ Loony I mean Hes going All Albert Eninestein On Us I Think He Needs To Take A Trip To The Loony Home And Be Brainwashed To The
Fact That Volvo Drives Arent The Only Ones To Blame Nor Do We Occupy A Large Percentage of "Loonatic" Drivers He Needs To Realise That We Are Just As Innocent As He
Is And The Sooner He Realises That The Better We All Will Be :-) In Fact I Seam To Remeber Reading A Big Survey Done And The Ppl That Occupy The Percentage For Wanker Drivers Are Ppl
In Mercs , Fords And BMW's So I Mean Where Did He Get The Idea Its All Our Fault... "Go Figure"

The proof is in the pudding. Sweden, for example, has one of the highest rates of alcoholism in the world. And as Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) has shown over the past fifteen years, it is the drunk driver who crashes into things. Auto manufacturers can only endeavor to protect the people who drive their cars. Taken one step further, it is in the auto makers best interest to protect their customers from themselves. As Machiavelli pointed out, it is within the human spirit to be self-defeating. Can you imagine some Swedish person, after a very long winter night out on the town, driving home in a Hyundai? He's smarter than that. He would drive a tank home if he could. Instead, he drives a Volvo, the safest car made.

Well For One I Believe Each Country Is As Even As Eachother Regarding Alcoholosim So I Mean Not Only Is He Having A Go At Volvo Hes Also Bagging Out Volvos Home
Country Gee Does This Guy Ever Sleep? No Hes SItting On His Little Computer Looking At A Screen Tytping Away &*^%*^% Pethetic Article About The Fact Volvo Is Stupid And So Are Swedes, &^$% I Have A Cousin Thats Lived in Stockholm For The Past 20 Yrs Now And She Loves It So Once Again "Go Figure"

The ad campaign that Volvo has embarked on for years shows that Volvo intends to market their vehicles to people who can't drive. There are images of Volvos crashing into walls and driving off cliffs, ultimately surviving what would be a knockout blow to most cars. With an attitude of indestructibility, Volvo drivers have the confidence to do what ever it takes to get from point A to point B, knowing they will survive the adventures of turning left from the right lane, of driving 20 mph in a 35 mph zone, and of sudden stops from out of nowhere. The perversity of this false sense of security is that it is a lack of confidence in their abilities which leads them to buy a Volvo in the first place. What's more, at the end of Volvo commercials the spokesman says, "Drive safely." This is a warning to the rest of us that people who drive Volvos can't drive, while at the same time pleading with its customers to DRIVE SAFELY.

ME

&^%# Me He Really Has Gone Psyco Quick SOmeone Call The Men In White Coats Ok So Its Volvos Fault Now That "Some" Ppl Refuse To Listen Or Pay Any Attention
to the tv/radio ads is it? hmm i think this guy really needs to have a reality Check On Life And His Opinion Of Volvo, One Of These Days Someone Who Gets Offended By Ppl Who Bag
Out Volvo or Sweden "Believe Me There Are Some Ppl Like That Me Being One" Will Take Great Offence And Either Send Him A Virus "one Can Only Hope" Or Flame Him Via E-mail
With Nothing But Obseneties And Abuse he really needs to take a chill pill and STFU regarding swedes and Volvo.

There is one statistic which does not bode well for highway safety. Bloomberg Business News reported in 1995 that sales of Volvos in North America rose 9.7 percent to 57,100 cars, which means there are more people driving who can't. How can insurance companies condone bad driving habits created through a false sense of security? Maybe it's because there are others out there who have seen the things I've seen and have been in similar situations where someone driving a Volvo comes within inches of finishing them off. Whatever the case may be I will continue doing all that I can to get out of the way before something dreadful happens.

ME

Blah Blah &*%$*^& Blah Blah so ppl who drive volvos are scared of the road now aye hmm i think mabye this guy is really just jellos that other ppl can afford a decent car and he cant
instead hes limited to his Piece of Krap whatever it is and were driving arround in luxury with the added security of feeling safe i think we need to find out where he lives and buy him a cheap volvo just so he can see how fun and safe they reeally are LOL hes a wanker a true wanker at heart makes me laugh the more i read this &*%$ LOL.

A Swedish friend of mine says there are only two thing Swedes do: Drink and knulla. So when I asked him if everyone in Sweden drives Volvos he said that it was law. Let the truth be told, there is no law requiring Swedes drive Volvos. Yet the comment does indicate that Swedes have common sense. They are practical. If a Swede is going to drink he or she will drive the safest car available: a Volvo. Americans are practical too. Is there better car available for the person who cannot drive? NO.

ME
**
like i said earlier sweden is jsut as even as the rest regarding alcholosim and a swede isnt going to drink and drive anyway if they apparently have this thing called "Common Sense" which they do and i mean geez i mean hes even had a dig at aemericans and as far as volvo being the only safest car sure they are up there but i mean there other cars mabye not as safe but are jsut as safe as the volvo he really needs to take a Chill Pill Like i said and just go with the flow i think

Enuff Said Im Off To Bed.

"For many years, it was one of the safest cars in the world. American automotive fatality records, which are very complete, recorded no fatalities in a Volvo 240 until 1993. After that year, however, fatalities rose to 80-100 per year. Of course, an unknown portion of this may be because of the demographics of the Volvo driving population, which w
would tend to be more stable and less inclined to higher risk driving."
