Quick question from a prospective buyer...
I'm just wondering how Volvo's are in general to do fairly full on mods with, in regards to hardware and electronics, as opposed to jap cars...
I had a little jap-spec S13 Silvia (240SX in US.. but coupe version), into which I stuffed the single turbo variant of the Z32 300ZX's motor (VG30DET), along with quite a few upgrades, aftermarket ECU, etc, and ended up with 460rwhp.

So, basically, the AWD version of the V50 T5 is not available to us Aussies, and I'm wondering, after the warranty has finished, will it be a feasible project for me to source and retrofit the AWD drivetrain, as available in Europe and the US, ie buy the components from a wrecked V50 T5 AWD from Europe or US, and fit them to my FWD one..?
Or do the AWD variants utilise components which will not fit the RHD version?
Would the FWD version share the floorpan with the AWD one? ie, room and mounting points at rear for rear diff, etc?

Would a better option be to attempt fitting the drivetrain from the V70R, or S60R, if I can get the components, or find a wrecked one..?

Would the ECU from the Euro/US V50 T5 AWD/S60R/V70R work in conjunction with the stock ECU, or be able to replace it altogether?
Would it be better to use aftermarket ECU for engine, and keep stock ECU for other ECU controlled functions only?

This will not be a deciding factor in the purchase decision, but would be good to know if I will be able to do it later..
I am the sort of person who won't grow up and stop tinkering/modifying cars, can't leave well alone!!

Thanks for any advice..
Clint.
