This is my first posting so please bear with me in describing my problem.
I own a 2004 V40. I recently noticed that the panel next to my gear shift handle is not illuminated when I have the headlights on and it's very difficult to see at night when I put the car in gear. I can't really see if I'm putting the car in drive or neutral because the panel is completely dark. Is this normal? In addition, I've also noticed that the words above the knobs for the radio controls are also not illuminated. Again I'm not sure if it's always been this way or something is wrong. I feel silly for not noticing before but it's one of those things where you don't really think about it until you're looking for it! Does anyone else have this problem? Thank you for your time and input. I really appreciate it! |

Have you brought this up to the dealer yet?
You should be under Warranty. Is it a 2004 old style or a 2004.5 new style? |

Assuming all other lights are normal and the dimmer dial is on high, maybe just those bulbs went out....and like Tech said, should be under warranty.

Thank you for your responses. I have a 2004 and not a 2004.5 V40 model and no, I haven't consulted with the dealer yet because I wanted to know talk to others first to see whether or not anyone else has had the same problem or if the car was just made that way.
To be honest, I don't particularly like talking to the "service advisors" at Volvo because they have a way of dismissing minor complaints and making you feel like you don't know what you're talking about! Thank You again for your time. |

Since it's not under warranty, I'd like to locate the nomaclature to do the repair myself. Easy on my other Volvo, this one looks like something I don't want to mess up by trial and error. i have a 1992 volvo 940 and have the same issue with the shifter lights not illuminated. however i was fooling around with the brightness for the lights on the front panel(speed, gas ,etc) and i found that if i put the brightness level only halfway up instead of all the way, that the shifter lights work as well as all the other lights.
so that's what i do, i'm by no means an expert but hey it works for me. |
