just had the car in and the mechanic says the drop link is noisy and up for replacement soon. Anyone enlighten me what it does, where is it and what's involved in replacement. Is it a difficult job to do myself. reasonably handy with a socket set. Thanks all - Roy

Hi Tech,

I wasn't complaining about anything, he reported it. Said it was noisy and likely to be needed changing before the next test. - Roy

Im not sure what he is saying is bad. If it is in the front end it could be Balljoints,Swaybar links,Tie Rods,Steering rack,Struts,or upper spring seat.

I would have him point it out to you so you canm explain it to us.

Hiya i`m new ere <- this is slang for here ! Also in the Uk ive started reading these forums with intrest as i own a 850 estate 20 valve 95 [ i want a T 5 for christmas ! ]
I paid £700 qwid [pounds] for this on Ebay with full Volvo service history ,and have owned a few 240`s a 740 and now this
Jobs to do is TCA Bushes [as it handles like a boat on corners and roundabouts <-not seen in the states ! ]
The cam belt <-oh long job !
The dreaded oil breather pipe has come off [temp fix with glue ! ]
A good service !

A great car ,our police here love em [s40`s and v70`s and s60`s ] but i still rate the T5 estate

Roy

Drop links are very easy to replace, they connect the anti-roll bar to the strut, cost about £10.00 if you get them from a motor factor I think they are about £35.00 from volvo.
I fitted them to my 850 in the summer took 15 minutes a side. :)

Is this what he's talking about?

To replace this is quite straightforward, i think. Just a little bit of muscles needed. One man job only (of course, you'd need to lift the car up a bit)...

Right, i think we call them link-rods here (or stabiliser rods)...

Cheers!

NB:
Maybe they should call it like,... Drop-Link-Rod, for everyone's convenience... OK, I'm rambling. Bye.
