My 2001 S80 T-6 is acting a little strange. When my turbo kicks in, instead of a constant boost it pulsates. Like a heart beat. Is this normal? I've never owned a turbo. Driven them...but never owned.

So not long ago I had the same symptoms. I brought it to my Volvo mechanic (who is a senior mechanic) and he said with out a doubt it was the turbo wastgates... he replaced them and since then i have not experienced the same pulsating feeling... I do remember that it occured more when i was in accel or climbing hills, at first i figured it was a fuel issue, but he proved me wrong. I was lucky it was covered under warranty, as i do not think it was a cheap fix... although a must in my opinion, what good is having a twin turbo that is failing...
hope this helps.
