Hello,
I'd bought some weeks ago my first Volvo (a 2001 V40 TD - 116HP) from a Volvo retailer in Germany (find the offer on internet and after that I went for it). Mine it's on second hand and even if it has 200.000km works so fine. But i have some more questions for those volvo lovers (i was an Audi lover, now I love Volvo so much too). I will now put my questions and I hope I'll find nswers for most of them:

1. On the internet offer it was said it has ESP/ASR (for Volvo I understand it's the equivalent or DSA). On the dashboard it's not any DSA button so in this case there's probably no DSA on it?

2. On the offer, they mentioned about the alarm system. My car is locking/unlocking from remote, it do the flashes but there is no alarm system active. On my windows are some stickers that prevent that the car is alarm protected and I've also understood that the alarm system is standard. The LED on the right side of the dashboard (also never flashed once! Is there any chance that there is no alarm system or just the alarm is somewhat turned off and only the locking/unlocking system is active? If yes, then can someone please inform me how to engage the alarm system too (in the manual on the american site it written only about how to arm and disarm de alarm, not how to efectivelly disengage it - probably they disengaged it for not sounding in the car park).

3. On the internet offer they also mentioned about 5CD changer. The audio unit is the HU-1205 and for first, I hopped it had the changer on the main unit like the home mini-audio-systems. Is there any chance to be like that or I have to search for all the hidden places on the car for it?

I really hope that at least one of these to be there because when I'd considered the offer i considered for those options too because DSA is good to be there, an alarm system I'll have to buy it if there is none and I would also need to buy a CD changer (btw, it's correct changer or charger? later edit: I suppose that changer is correct or what't google saying :)).

4. My last question is about the subwoofer on the right side of my trunk. I use the -2 level on bass otherwise it's very dominant on sound (with the A option selected on equalizer - the secret menu on the audio unit) i needed -4/-6 bass level. It's normal or I'm just to abnormal user that I want good frequency response and not a real bass lover. It also cranks up very easy, not allowing the max audio power level (even at -6 bass level). I suppose it's not normal to crank like that and i need to see it if there is something wrong but I can't figure how to get the cover on it out and I don't want to force it and damage it (the interior's car looks so fine and i don't want to do some harm to it :haha: ).

Excuse me for my long posting and also for my faults in English. I hope you all understood it fine with not so many problems and I hope I'll find my answers here.

With all my best regards

1- Check ampangbear's reply in the general section for links..there is a page that u can enter the make/model/year and get the owner's manual online. That might help with most of your probs.

2- Lock the car with a window down, and reach in and unlock...If u have an alarm, youll know now!!

3- See #1

4- Mess around with the bass setting when balance and fade are at even settings. If it still doesnt seem right, ask a couple friends what they think. Might have been used too heavy, and needs to be replaced.

Hope that helps

1. I took the English owner's manual (I allready have the Deutch one but I can't speak Deutch). There I found something about the packages with and without DSA depending on the engine. I will look further for that thing.

2. I'll do that imediatlly. The problem is that my LED on the dash (in the region of the front-right speaker) didn't light once. I hope there is an alarm and is activated and the LED is broken. My problem was that i knew that third-party alarm systems could be disengaged or put on silent but keep the locking/unlocking keyless system by the remote.
It's possible that the alarm is using the same driver for the car's horn? (because I can't find anotherone for the alarm).

3. The changer isn't standard for the HU-1205 unit and i seeked the hole car for an changer hidden somewhere. None! Probably it was supposed to ask for it when I bought the car from the dealer. I understand that the audio systems for Volvo are compatible with the Alpine units. It's true or wrong?

4. I use only even for balance/fade. As i thought it seems to be something wrong there. Could someone to help me with some tips how to take the subwoofer's cover out if it's possible (it seems as it's glued there so I don't want to risk damaging the cover). If it's not possible to take out only the cover, how can I take the entire mask from right to get to the metal-structure of the body so I could reach the subwofer.

Thanks for replying and hoping that you will me further.
