Great forum!

My '94 850 Turbo, 115k miles has an oil leak whicm my mechanic traced to the turbo charger. Like another poster, it drops a 2-3"spot of oil when is sits overnight, or even when it is driven short distances.

Of course, the price if around $1k for a rebuilt unit, and more for new. I read here about replacing the gaskets in about an hour for $30 or so. Where can I find the procedures for this to determine if I can tackle it myself?

Also, how can I check to make sure that the leak is indeed from the gasket versus something more troublesome?

The leak we are talking about is where a pipe goes from the turbo to the engine block.

It will leak oil from the block where the pipe goes in.

Clean the back of the engine good.Then take it for a ride and make sure to boost it pretty good.Then come back and look at it.If it is leaking at the bottom of the pipe then the o-ring is bad.

There is only 3 screws you will have to remove to get it out.

Yupp on DIY.

Challenging? Seriously, I don't know. That's why I'd like to see.

The turbo oil-ring seal is a common thing to go bad. But as you can see, if the repair job is an easy one, then no need to spend th extra $$ to have someone do it for you, especially if you could do it yourself. Right?

Hi Mate. they all leak a certain amount of oil. the favorite is the pipe for leaking. if the turbo seals were leaking. it would just get burnt in the engine.
