I am trying to locate the FM tuner module in my 2006 S40. I have read where it is in the trunk but have not located it there. I have also read where it is located in the front of the vehicle but where? How do you get the CD player out? I cannot remove the center console. Any input would be appreciated. :liebe011:

Max,
I don't think the FM tuner would be put that far from the radio (no reason to run cable that far). Considering the text features and auto scan ability of the radio, I would guess that the FM tuner (chip about the size of a guitar pick) would be integrated into the onboard computer. I am sure that any Volvo service dept could confirm this.

As for the CD player. Since it is in dash with the "floating" console, I have no clue how that comes out. I am sure you have to remove a lot to get to it.

Good luck

According to Volvo the tuner should be located under the rear parcel shelf, that was confirmed by the fax I received from my local servie dept. with a diagram of how to remove the panels. But the manual is incorrect. The service manager is contracting Volvo N.A. to find where it was moved to on the '06 model. I will update any info I receive from volvo.

Let us know when you find out for sure. The only reason I can think of for the tuner being back there is that the FM antenna is in the window there, but that should not be a big factor.

I hope you find the info you need. All I had read pointed me to the center console (I was looking at putting XM in my S40)

I'm very interested in the schemes. I have s40 2,0 D 2006 and want to put a shipper of CD by radio frequency. And he would need those schemes. Thank you very much.

The tuner is in the back left of the car trunk. That is also the location of the onboard amp and where the fiber optic connects to the amp. I installed an fm modulator in that location along with a sub/amp with a line out converter. If you take the rear left trunk panel you have access to everything you need. Spllice into the speaker wire outputs for your sub rca connections and use the FM Hack to connect the Fm modulator. Takes some time but not difficult...

Snoops; what kind of modulator did you install? How does it sound? If you could expand on the "how done it" i'd sure appreciate it. :liebe011:

I used an Audiovox from Circuit City $50. I has tried an Antennae Works from Best Buy and it was horrible!
I installed it at the rear using the "antenna hack" specified in various other forums using a motorola cable and tapping into the antenna in the rear using the 9 volt battery connectors. You have to pop off the rear deck "easy" then on the rear left pillar on the window you will see the small connection.
The rest of it is explained in the fm modulators instructions the p[roblem with this car is there is no direct antenna plug so the hack is a go around.
I live in So Cal with many radio stations and it sounds ok not cd quality but as good as the best fm station.
I would still go for a better solution when available but for now it will work...
