:) Anyone have a problem with the electronic keys? Have had my S40 for a year and love the way it drives. Just encountered a key error and it shuts the entire car down. Steering wheel locks, electronics off,....it is stuck in my garage and cannot get to the dealership to be repaired. I parked in my garage and then the next morning got in the car and got a "key error" with both keys. No warning to this fault, and it completely locks the car down. Anyone with any suggestions? I can't even get it towed to the dealers......

Had my first really strange experience with my S40. Have had it for over a year and the car has been flawless. Just the basic model with a stick and what a blast to drive!! Anyway, this Saturday morning I got into the car to go to the store, put the Electronic key in the ignition and "nothing". Turned the key to the right and heard an electric motor kick in and then got the message "key error" try again, which I did all weekend to no avail. Had two tow trucks out to tow the car to the dealer and it turns out that without the key code matching the ignition code everything is disabled, and the steering column locks. Could not move the car. UGH!!

The dealer sent their service manager to my house to check on the situation, he turned the key once and got the "error" message and then turned it again and it started!!!!!!

Now you can imagine how I felt, pretty foolish. The car is starting fine now, but I am seeing an airbag notice in the dash. This happened after the software update for the radio, so I am wondering if anyone else is seeing gremlins after the software update? It's all very strange.......

Ted,
The software update actually fixed my gremlins. I am wondering if your key fob battery is about dead. I have noticed that I have to change the battery on the S40 key more often than I did on my Jeep. If that is not the problem, I would have them "re load" the software. I know that sometimes when the techs flash the software updates to the ECU, they have been known to walk away and the update can timeout. Either way, it should not hurt to have them load the updates again.

Cheers

No idea, I would have to call the dealer. Maybe they can bring out something to get it to at least move, or drag it out to tow it.

Ill move the post for u (Im assuming its a 2nd gen)

Welcome,

Sorry to hear of your issue. I agree with S60R, to call the dealer or any specialist that you know can fix it. But if it's under warranty, then go straight to the dealer.
