Barely starts, then backfires and quits. Just replaced timing belt and double checked to see if it was alignedok. Any ideas

It was getting kinda sluggish, so I replaced plugs, wires, dist cap, fuel filter. Then came the timing belt. Now the problems starting.

Is it the original engine in the car?

If it runs bad after the belt installation then my guess is something with the belt.

Did you turn the engine at all once the belt was off?
