miamick,

For your 940 . . . yes, pry that little rubber stopper out, and use a slender instrument (a very small screwdriver is good) to press the button/switch all the way in. You may need to have the key on, but I don't think so. Replace the stopper, and you're good for another 5,000 miles or so.

I needed to reset the service interval of my Volvo V50. I followed the directions off this site and it worked! Thanks heaps. Just wanted people to know that it worked for hte V50, even though it didn't specifically say. Turn to I position, hold down the trip reset button, turn key to II, then wait for the "info"or "message" light to flash. Then turn the key off. Hey presto, fixed.

Your services/dates are logged into the car by the computer at the dealer.. the light comes on when you didnt do it on schedule or its time for another service. I highly suggest getting it fixed by the dealer instead of tripping the warning message.

Help anyone ?!!?

I’ve tried many times to reset the “Service required” (SRI) indicator from my Volvo S60 with your way, however it didn’t work for me.

I would be grateful if you could please explain for once more the procedure.

- Firstly, my indicator is not flashing (I don’t know if this makes a difference).
- Secondly, if I press and hold down the reset-button (for the odometer), I get an audible signal and a message with the number: “045”. But nothing happens after that.
-Lastly, when the key is in the Ignition position I, I press and hold in the reset - for the trip odometer- button, how long for ?.

-When I turn the key to the position II, the button should be already pressed in from the previous step, or shall I press it again (for 10 seconds) once I change the positions from I to II?

I tried it many times with all the possible ways, however the SRI has not disappeared but it only displays the “045“ message foe about 5 seconds.

Thank you for your help guys

 :trophy:

As I tried all the procedures that had been posted on many web sites, in order to reset the Service Remainder message (SRI), unfortunately none worked for me until I found the following procedure. However, it is first necessary to clarify that my car (S60 D5 S ‘01) does not beep or blink or flash the yellow caution triangle; but using the trip-odometer, its simply changes from first trip mileage to the next trip mileage (It is not a change from T1 to T2 rather just the mileage changes).

* So, the procedure goes as follows:

- Turn the ignition key to position I
- Ensure that the trip display is on T1 and shows some miles (not zero ).
Press and hold the T1 reset button and wait for the odometer to set to zero
- Turn the ignition key to position II, and watch the odometer
- When the previously displayed miles reappears, quickly release the reset button
and then turn the key to the off position.

Hope it’ll work for you too.

Good Luck

QUOTE(Tech @ Nov 6 2004, 01:15 AM)
Turn the ignition to position 1 push and hold trip reset while holding.Turn to position 2 hold trip reset till the service light flashes 3 times and then release. You should hear a beep to let you know it is reset. It might take you 2 times sometimes. If you have the message in the text window the little triangle in the center of the speedo assy. will flash. Also another trick to help you is when the milage returns the light should be reset.

This worked perfect on first try with my '00.

I just took this car in to the dealer to have a defective pressure sensor for the vacuum pump replaced and had hoped they would reset the light. I guess 300 bucks is not enough for this courtesy.

Anyway thanks to this forum for it's help. I know dealers; who should applaud forums such as this one, seem to resent them. At least i got that impression from the service tech when i mentioned this great site while discussing my trouble shooting for the vacuum.

edit:

i should note that this was done on my '00 S40. I was searching this forum for resetting the service light and the S60 topic came up with out me noticing. This same reset pasidure works with my XC 70 as well.

I don't know if deanoO's airbag service light came on for the same reason as mine, but I had my entire center consol taken apart to get to the radios backside, and did not know that a turn on the ignition key would set the airbag service light on.

In other words I triggered the indicator myself and would just like it to disappear again :-)

But hey, otherwise you are completely right, don't mess with things that are ment to keep you alive.

Thanks for the help on this one. The service light on my wife's S70 reset the first time. My S60 however is a different story, and I'm convinced that after more than 30 attempts, it will remain un-reset until I am near a Volvo dealer, or Ragnarök, whichever comes first.

This worked for my 2004 AWD S60.

O happy day!

Now to work with the little Position bulb failure light (what a pain). I read on this board about that. So I will tackle that today.

Thanks again!

Tech's method right at the start of this thread worked for me (on the 3rd attempt)

Ignition on position 1

press and hold reset button (was on T1 at the time, nor sure if it makes any difference though)

When the milage resets to '0' turn to ignition to position 2

Keep holding for what felt like around 4-5 seconds until the service light starts flashing (mine flashed around 5 times I think)

Release the button and you should hear a ping sound and then turn off ignition.

I think the problem I had on the first two attempts was turning the ignition off before releasing the button.
I guess thats it for another 12k - I hope this one stays pinned at the top because I will probably have forgotten how to do it by then.
Big :liebe011: to all for this one !

Cheers all... This method worked for me ('02 Volvo S60 AWD) with one interesting wrinkle - before I got the timing right, I had reset the trip counter back to zero. I was having no joy at all. I tried all the various tweaks that Tech and Ivanmarcello suggested, like closing and opening the door, locking and unlocking, and so on, but no joy. I then tried hitting the trip counter button once to set it to the second (non-zero) trip counter, and tried the same procedure again - success on the first try! So, if you're having trouble and your trip counter is zero, try using your second trip counter, or put some distance on the car.

Deano0, I agree with Viper 7 - monkeying around with your air bag light is a Very Bad Thing. I'm a collision investigator - and trust me, if there's ANY chance your air bag is faulty, do yourself (and your passengers) a favor and get it diagnosed and fixed by a dealer.

(And bld444 - the reason I had to reset my warning is because my dealer FORGOT to reset it - AGAIN. I wasn't about to drive for an hour just to get them to fix their error.)

Thanks for the great tips!

For what it's worth, I have an intermittent "Position bulb failure" error that I can fix every time. Very high tech solution. I whack the lens with the palm of my hand. The lamp comes on, the warning goes off. Should I go slower with the technospeak? :)

I found this, on another site, written by a merciful fellow, regarding 2006 models. It is so concise that After numerous attempts, to reset my 2006 XC70, I finally got it! I am sharing it here for those who need this sort of exactness. IT WORKS!

1. Insert key in ignition, turn to position I

2. Press and hold in the trip computer reset button, and then immediately

3. Turn ignition key to position II

4. HOLD reset button in with ignition at position II until the yellow caution triangle flashes THREE times - WATCH the triangle.

5. On the THIRD flash of the triangle, release the trip computer reset button and,

6. Turn ignition COMPLETELY to position 0 (off)
