Hello all, more brake noise problems.
My 91 240 occasionally makes pulsating brake noise at low speed. It happens cold or hot. I Looked at all sets, with the wheels off and the friction material is good. Rotors are near new, (4 K ) Spinning ( I use the term spin here pretty loosely, because the brakes have a little drag) the rotors by hand doesn't show any noticable warp. I removed the pads from the wheel that appears to be the offender, cleaned and lubed the slide pins. Still get the noise. What else? |

Do the back of the pads have grease on them?

Hi Tech,
The pads were clean on the brake that I dismantled, but I will look closer on the week-end. I will post findings. |

how are the front shocks? - if they are on way out you will get low speed braking problems

Hello again,
I checked the rotors for grease , they are clean. My shocks have a little fluid loss, but their action is still good. (The car still rides better than our chevy). I suspect the caliper's pistons are hanging up. The noise I get is low speed only, and seems to be in rythym with the rotation of the wheels. Annoying as _ell. Any thoughts? |

That annoying intermittent brake noise eventually turned into an embarassing screech that came and went. I removed the back rotors and found the source, a broken spring on the emergency brake shoe.
Now I can love my Volvo again. |
