Photos first....
:)

100% DIY...
-> Give yourself something to do on an otherwise quite boring weekend
-> Takes just up to 2 hours only
-> Save labor costs (in my case RM100)...

The step by step guides will come later, but I believe this is quite explanatory already. Everything is quite simple and straight forward.

BTW, the reason why I was able to cut, and paste everything within 2 hours from scratch was due to help i got from 2 friends;
1) Marlin (Black 855T5 - Souped Up!)
and
2) Ccfaris (Gold 754TIC - Souped Up!)

THANKS, GUYS!

Some information on the material used. The Superlon Insulation features:

- Low thermal conductivity (K value) which makes it highly efficient and effective in the insulation of cooling or heating systems.

- The thermal blister closed cell structure forms an impermeable layer which is in itself a good vapour barrier.

- It is suitable for application within the temperature range of -40°C +105°C.

- The material has been specially compounded to be self-extinguishing in nature.

- Superlon has excellent ozone and ultraviolet resistance.

- It is CFC, asbestos, chlorine and fiber-free and does not cause skin allergy.

- It is also inert to most chemical agents and neutral to pipe metals.

- The inherent flexibility of the material makes installation fast, easy and economical.

- It is able to withstand tearing, rough handling and sever site conditions.

- Much lesser space is needed for Superlon as a thinner wall is required due to its low K value as compared to other types of insulation.

- The smooth surface of Superlon material gives the finished installation a neat and aesthetic appearance. No coating is necessary on most indoor installation.

SUPERLON ® is a flexible and lightweight elastomeric nitrile foam material designed primarily for thermal insulation. SUPERLON ® insulation is black in colour and is available either in tubing or sheet form. The extruded flexible tubing is specially designed to fit the standard diameters of steel and copper pipings. Sheets are available in standard precut sizes or in rolls.

SUPERLON ® 's expanded closed cell structure provides an efficient vapour barrier for the prevention of condensation or frost formation on cooling systems, chilled water and refrigerator lines.

SUPERLON ® also retards heat loss for hot water plumbing and heating, dual temperature piping and solar systems. It protects pipes against corrosion and acts as a vibration damper.

SUPERLON ® 's inherent flexibility makes it ideally suited to the insulation of large surface areas such as tanks, irregularly shaped vessel, air-ducts and large diameter pipes.

It looks great installed. Is it easy to cut? Sounds like it was very easy to install.

Thanks! Due to the time, it wasn't feasible for me to get a good shop at it. Will post a clear one soon.

Generally, you'd need a new set of blade on your cutter and cuts should be properly lined-up using pencils or markers first. Use a cutting board and swipe it at one go, so that the edges would turnout nice. It's quite abrasion-proof so, using scissors should be avoided unless for trimming purposes - even at that, best to use sharp ones. :)

The overall costs is also like 30% of the original hood insulation fibre.

Anyway, this is how the SuperLON thing looked like. Only that in mine, it came with self-adhesives... The one in these photos do not.

Hi Ampangbear,

just one Q. Did you insulated the crossbar hood support? It's not shown in the picture, the crossbars seem to be bare...

Hey Johnyb.

As of present, no I did not. But I do plan to cover all the 'skeletal remains'. As soon as I can find a nice and relaxing clear Sunday afternoon off.

As such, it will be like 'doubly' insulated. But i need to caution you though, as before you begin sticking them into place, you would definitely need to 'clean' the contact areas under the hood using some solutions to get rid of the carbon layer that has come to rest over the period of that many years. If this is not done carefully, the superlon will not stick, and will easily defeat the purpose.

:)

:liebe011: ,
but be careful, I thing all glued parts need to be pinned to hood - just to be sure. You can't stop the material degradation - even when superlon seems to be realy good material, the glue, the stick areas/layer may be a problem.
Any loose/detached part can be extremly, dangerous in engine bay...
Good luck, enjoy the sunday afternoon :)
J.
