Air pump on my 96' 960... it fell off, the bolts holding the thing on.... well they are rubber hangers with bolts attached to them on either side. I guess I will need to go to the dealer for those... but WHAT THE **** is this thing, I have never come across something like this other cars... so does my 960 really need it? I know it pumps air into the exhuast manifold to heat the catalytic converter up, or something like that. Also can it go bad and make bad noises....
has anyone come across problems with this pump???????????

Thanks
Koosh

It is needed for the car to run properly. It will also keep the check engine light on if removed.
The mounts I think will have to be purchased at the dealer.

Thanks Tech- I will check with the local dealer for the mounts.
Here is another question for you... you seem to know your volvos.
At higher speeds than 30 mph, well for example. I am driving at 40 mph and just barely touching the accelerator to keep the speed constant at 40, there is a rattling sound almost sounds like a fart (maybe its pinging). This sound is there for a sec and then the rpms jump 300-500 and then a second later they go back down. This only happens at speeds greater then 30 or around there.
Could that be my OD, or maybe its the air pump malfunctioning....
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

thanks
T

That might be pinging.
It might also be a bad trans mount and it is vibrating when you hit the gas.

The Air pump only works for 1 to 2 minutes after the car sits for many hours.
