I noticed today that my turbo charger with 115k miles on it is sick, if not dead.

It will spool up to the point where it would kick in (white on the gauge) but then stops.

No woosh, no boost, no nothing

Does this sound like a dead turbo to the professional techs out there, or something less serious

Check the vaccum lines near the turbo. It might be going into overboost.

Mine is doing the same trick.
In this case, the battery went drained because i left the trunk light on for the whole weekend. I did jump start and from then on the boost is gone all of a sudden.
Could it be some software issue?

Fine!
The problem was not software neither hardware.
Was a mouse! The damned rodent chew a pack of wires that go beneath the battery.
Fixed the roded wire my boost is back.

If not an air leak it may be a faulty boost sensor - That is cutting the boost before it really kicks in.

Usually when a turbo fails it either seizes - very limited performance results or the oil seals fail giving a serious amount of smoke out of the back! I'd check the intercooler pipe work for leaks too -

Probably not serious in terms of the turbo itself maybe resetting the ECU might help?

I have the same/similar issue with my 1996 850 turbo. Some time back I blew an oil coolant line off, since then I have had no boost, gauge goes up to the point of boost and then just sticks there. I thought I had a bad turbo, because of the sudden loss of oil pressure. I bought a new 15g, when I went to put it in yesterday I pulled the intake side off of the turbo and just for kicks checked the turbo before doing major surgery, and the shaft is spinning freely and there seems to be no play in it. I don't have any oil burning issues either. I checked all the vacuum lines and they seem ok. Still no boost - any suggestions? What wire did you find chewed/corroded, how do you reset the ECU?

thanks

Check ALL the vacuum lines to see if they are OK. Check for leaks especially. Since you 15G is new, i guess there is no point in asking you to check it.

To reset the ECU? Yours is OBD2, you'll need the code reader tool.

To find the pack of wires that control boost action you will have to remove the battery. There you should find it. Right in front of the battery shelf.

If you're referring to the TCV (Turbo Control Valve), it is originally attched to the air filter box, actually.

I had the same problem. This afternoon I disconnected the wastegate vacuum line on the TCV. Worked like a charm. My boost is back. I hope this doesn't damage anything. Any ideas?

Well, i too have disconnected the TCV to all the vacuum hoses. Since i am using Daewes Device, the settings are like that. I dont know why, but it seem to work. I was able to increase the boost to 1.12 bar (recorded peak, but i suspect is a spike)

But if you disconnect the cable to the TCV, you will get a lambda error.
