It might be but look at other things first unless you have a fuel pressure guage to install on it.

yeah its not the fuel pump cause i was told that it either works or it doesnt. so their guess is the fuel pressure regulator. i have had this changed before. and before that my original pressure regulator was set too high...he reset it on my new one and now its too low that i am not getting ne throttle response at all. is there a way i can adjust the fuel pressure regulator? thanks

NO you can't adjust it.It is non adjustable.

I think you have another problem.

Try the mass flow sensor first.

Then you might want to check the fuel filter.

It could also be a bad throttle position sensor.

Yes the mass flow sensor is in the hose between the throttle body and the Air filter.

Unplug the mass flow sensor and see if it runs better.

The Tps you will have to take measurements and all.

But the fuel filter you can just replace.

conflicting advice here - you say it is K Jetronic - well I feel by 1984 it would at least be the K Lamda but question is IF it is still mech or electronic???

like is there a wire as well as fuel going to injector??

if it IS still a mechanical I would suspect the air flap thingo is stuck, ie the gas pedal on mech system is not DIRECTLY connected to system but simply allows more vacuum to open the air flapper [which meters the correct amount of fuel]

however black smoke could simply say mixture is too rich to fire - does problem go away once at correct temp?

The 1984 has electronic fuel injection.

Black smoke means running way to rich.

Do you have a digital multi meter?
