Here're some photos of the 850 Turbo driveshaft i took last night.

I just wanted to highlight the size and also the teeth at the end of the driveshaft.
To show that it should be able to just be slid-out once all is disengaged.

Edit:
Argh. No i am told i cant post images.
Hmmm... Leeme see whats wrong.

Hi, I'm also hearing some rattling noise when turning right (when driving slow). How can I know if it's the CV and if it is, is it a serious problem or can I wait in fixing it until I have some cash at hand?

Usually, a problemmatic CV is triggered after the CV boot is torn. Though sometimes the inner wear is too much that you'd be able to feel the vibration from the tyres as you accelerate. The harder you accelerate, the more you feel it.

Under the car
If you can lift the car or get under the car without lifting it (use your imagination, dude - like curb parking, :haha: Hehe) try to see if the CV boot is torn. Look for traces of grease.

Inside the wheel well
Sometimes, without even removing the wheel, you'd be able to tell if the CV boot is torn. Sometimes, you may have to. Look for a circular trace of grease in the wheel-well's wall. (Hey, try to say that 10 times, fast!)

Wheel-well's wall!
Wheel-well's wall!
Wheel-well's wall!
Wheel-well's wall!
Wheel-well's wall!

OK,ok...sorry.

Good luck.

I got a little tired of waiting, so i signed is under a similar username, and am trying to upload the photos. Hopefully it works this time. (No reason not to, cos this is under a different username)

Cheers.

We used a flat, solid 90degree prybar to edge it out, bit by bit, if it is stuck. Try that.

I want to hear pmohr and use a lever to remove the HP into the tranny. Slow and steady wins the race, if you know what I mean. Just put it in the box between transport and the body gradually resume and apply preasure. Be careful not to damage joints, although you really need to have an opportunity to leverage to do so. Just be careful and you should be fine.

Can anyone point me to a "how-to", or any advice, on pulling a rear CV axle? One of the axle seals on my '98 V70 XC is leaking.

I left the lower ball joint alone and pulled the top two 18mm strut bolts and loosened the 15mm strut mounts in engine compartment. Did not remove the tie rod end. then allen wrench in the stabilizer and 15mm to pull the top nut off from the strut. removed 15mm caliper bracket bolts and calipers, suspended it with a bungy cord. 36MM impact to remove big nut with tire on the ground. 12mm cap bolts for passenger side.

torques on reassembly:
12mm cap bolts 18 ftlbs and lock tight
strut mount - top - 23 ftlbs
lower 18mm strut bolts - 58 ftlbs
main bolt 81 ft pounds and then another 90 degrees (could not turn to 120 like the other spec - it went to like 300 ft pounds suddenly at about 90 degrees) -- comments ???
sway bar link about 25 but that is all I could get on it without fear of stripping the allen
lug nuts 81 footpounds
caliper bracket bolts - 3' breaker bar - as tight as removal. probably 80 but not sure

Hey guys,
I've found most of the information here useful for my axle overhaul, I have an '01 and an '02 S40 (manuals show slight differences in setup albeit none that I saw)
My only issue with the overhaul is on the outer side... When I took apart the joint, balls, cage and star shape thingie, I didn't notice how those things were placed (yes there's an up and down postition), partly because the last time I'd done an overhaul was too freakin long to remember and because the grease was so mucky, I couldn't see much.
I'm adding pics maybe someone has been there and seen this.

The star shape thing is what attaches to the shaft (has a clip on there), it has the clip notch which is not centered.
I tried checking for exploded views, mitchell ondemand and alldata, nowhere did I find the orientation of these parts for reassembly.

Hope someone's got some insight...
