I've taken off the large intake hose and would very much appreciate advice as to what to do to clean the throttle body. Should I spray carb cleaner and just wipe or is there more to it?

:offtopic: Are you a New Zealander living in America?

May I recommend that you don't touch anything about the throttle body until you have very clear instructions from one of the guru's here? That topic appears often in here. :)

Remove it from the intake and clean it out good and reinstall it with a new gasket.

I like to clean them with some carb cleaner and an old toothbrush (or my Wifes current toothbrush, if I am REALLY angry with her ;)). Clean both sides of the 'Butterfly' and any passages (sometimes spraying alot in and shaking it around). For heavy build up, I use a soft towel wet with cleaner, but be careful not to leave any 'threads' pinched inside.
