Hi, I'm a new member and I've got a 1993 Volvo 850 with about 190K
miles. The AC blower motor seems to no longer have any speed control.
It still seems to blow cold air but always at the same slow speed. I live in Southwest Florida so this is getting to be a problem!!
Any ideas on what might be the problem? Do I need a new blower motor??

Thanks, Rich

Most likely the blower motor and resistor.

Where exactly do you live?

Naples, very Southwest Florida.
Since it stills seems to be blowing nice cold air just at low speed, should
I replace the resister first? Or should I do both at the same time?

OK, new update to my blower motor problem. Yesterday the up arrow indicator came on the dash and began flashing. I tried depressing the winter mode to stop it but that didn't work. Also tried pressing the economy or sport mode but it still kept flashing. Drove around the block and tried going in and out of park but still flashing. I called Volvo and they told me to try it again tonight before bringing it in for service.
Sure enough, I started it up and all is fine. Also, the blower motor is back working again??? I'm very happy but a little worried.
What would make both of these things happen??

Faulty parts will cause that to happen like that.

One time it sees the fault and other times it will not.

And I think the manual says that if it flashes repeatedly, you should stop your car as soon as possible to avoid further damage or something like that.

Not trying to scare you or anything.

The arrow just tell you that there is a fault in the transmission system.
