Does anyone know how to fix the broken lid (from the gas compartment).

I cannot believe that Volvo would manufacture cheap quality lids. I am not talking about the plastic lid that covers the gas but the metal lid that is used to cover it. Well, the lid is just fine but it is attached to the car using a plastic hinge. When I opened this thing to fill gas, this just fell down and two pieces of plastic came along with it. I could not believe that they use plastic hinges. Even my 1992 Honda Accord uses metal hinges to secure the metal lid.

Well, would such a repair be covered under warranty? How much does it cost to repair this?

Also, should I purchase extended warranty with Volvo?

Any info will be useful. Thanks for the time.

If you are still in the 4 year 50,000 miles it should be covered. If not it should be less than $100.00 to get fixed. You could also do it your self and save about $50.00 or so for the labor cost.

When it happened to me, I recall it cost about $10 US for the part and about 3 minutes of my labor. It also seemed like it was similar if not exactly the same as the hinge in some of my earlier models.

My kid barely touched the compartment and that plastic hinge broke into pieces. I was in denial for days the thing could be that cheap. I had the dealer replace it. It was less than $50.

Please, if you plan to keep the car, buy the extended warranty. I thought about it and opted not to because I was having the dealer maintenance performed religiously. At 58,000 my transmission died. At 70,000 miles, there was steering linkage issues. Both were major expenses and it would have been cheaper to get the extended warranty.
