hi gang i hope u can help us out on this one,we are are nuts about volvos we have ans 86 240 gl wagon that has 215,000 miles on it and runs great.we just baught an 940 tubo from a man that has been sitting in his garage for about a year.the body and inside is in grate shape, but it does have some have some problems,the car runs great but blows out white smoke and the speedo jumps all over the place. since i never had a turbo befoer but allwas wanted one sombody says that oil is getting into the turbo itself and has to be rebult.can sombody help me out and tell me what i should do. P.S. i paid 900.00 bucks for it thanks from tom and sandy

Make sure the car isn't overheating.If it isn't then I would say the turbo is bad.
Another sign of a bad turbo is that it will smoke under idle but not much while driving.

it is not overheating, it does only blow smoke at idle. you hit it on the head. now for the speedo...what you think?

Check the sensor located in the rear diff cover.Check the wiring first.

thanks the spedo does its own thing one min. it will be going back and forth verry fast next be stuck on 70mph but not going that fast,the cae seams to have no power when it does it takes so verry long to get up tp speed.must be the turbo can u tell me how much it will be to fix or should i get on out of a junk y7ard i know were there are sitting 940 turbos and do u think i paid to much for this car.we love volvos we think they are the best made cars.P.S. the people behind me when i come to a stop get smoked out ha ha ha thanks for the help O yea the car has 176,000 moloes on it my 240 gl wagon has over 200,000 on it and runs great.

You could try a junk yard one buy be careful.

It will cost some money for a new one but would be the best bet.

OK I HAVE TAKEN OFF THE TURBO UNIT AND THE HOSES AND TURBO IS FULL OF OIL.I THINK ITS A MITTZIBISHI TURBO IS THER A REBUILD KIT FOR IT THE TURBINE STILL SPINS FREELY :banana:

I think there is a rebuild kit but I have seen many rebuilts go bad very soon after the rebuild.

hey its got to better than buying a new one for 1,500 i love my volvos just about but theres got to be a better way i have the turbo on my work bench.im a ok mac.if i had an rebuild kit i know i could do it.so were can i get a kit or if i could take one out of a junk yard and put parts together. :banana:
