Hi I have a 2000 Volvo S80 2.9 with 144K on it and the service light came on. It usually comes on when I start the car and goes away as I start driving it. I was wondering if anyone can help me figure out whats causing it.

Thanks in advance.

Hey.
The service light comes up every time it is time to service the car.
After the dealer performs the service they will reset the service reminder.
If you want to manually reset the light here is how.

To reset your service light here are the steps.

1. Get in your car and shut the door.
2. Put your key in the ignition
3. Turn your ignition key to position 1
4. Push in your Odometer reset button and hold it in while holding it move the ignition key to position 2 while holding down the odometer reset button.
5. After couple of seconds of holding the button down and the key in position 2 your service light will start to blink once that happens let go of the reset button and start the car.

Hope this helps.

I just got an oil change and tune up, I don't know what other service needs to be performed. Also, the service light disappears after I start driving the car, its only there in the beginning for about 5-10 mins.

Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks.

The manual will tell you what service is to be performed at what intervals. No matter what services are performed or who performs them, the light will need to be reset, following the procedure provided. I am waiting on others to chime in on whether or not it's supposed to go off after a few minutes of driving. I thought it stayed on as a constant reminder.

The service light wasn't there when I took it in for the oil change, it came on after about 500 miles after I got the oil change. Also, the light is supposed to stay on as a constant reminder, I don't know why it comes on when I start the car and disappear after I drive a couple miles.

Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks.

G' Day,
I have the same thing on my T6 which was just serviced but the serviceman forgot to reset the service light.
My manual states that unless reset, the light will come on for 2 minutes every time you start up. So your car is behaving correctly. Just reset the light the way a previous poster has suggested.
Have a good day.
