ok, ive got a 2001 S40 (1.9t) with some bent valves.
i am currently removing the head and noticed a couple of issues.

1. the cam cover doesn't allow access to check valve clearence.
2. i don't seem to find any valve shims for sale. (does this mean each valce is ground to achive the correct gap?)

There are inspection plugs in the cam cover to check them with engine assembled. If head is torn down you will need special tools to do it. There are 25 diffrent size shims starting at 15.86mm up to 16.34mm

well partsman, i thought you were on crack !
but when my used head arrived i was supprised to see that it does in-fact have inspection ports.
why mine does not is beyond me. what year they did Volvo stop installing these ? They would be handy to have on my 2001 !!!

got the clearence within spec. will be mounting the head to the block tonight..
any heads up or items to watch ?
