Greetings all,My wife and I are planning on buying a stationwagon. We pretty much had decided on a Subaru outback, but yesterday we drove a 2002 V40.

I wanted to buy it right then and there, but as I had never considered buying a Volvo before, I had done no research. Upon reading through a couple of sites it seems like 2 problems are pretty common:
1. Breaks wearing out much faster than normal
2. Light bulbs always going

This car is being sold with a 100,000 mile 6 year warrenty, but I forgot to ask the dealer what this covers. Is this just powertrain, or will they fix any other problems with the car?

Any advice you guys (and gals) can give would be much appreciated.

It will only cover certain things. You will need to ask and get the specifics.

I would look at the v70 before the v40 wagon, l had the v40 and you are right there are problems with the brakes but it never broke down and was quick for what it is.

The V70 feels more solid and of course it's heavier and it only will cost you maybe 2 miles per gallon difference. The resale value is much higher on the v70.

Good luck

Thanks for the responses. I really like the V70, bit it is just a bit out of our price range. Plus, my wife will drive the car about 110 miles a day, so any savings on gas is a big plus for us. We ended up purchasing the V40. I got to drive it all weekend, and really love it so far. Hopefully it stays that way!
