I have a 1988 245 DL. Have been driving her for almost 4 years now, with expected failures and maintenance issues. No biggie. However, the timing belt broke this last weekend, and I was told by my mechanic that this engine was an interference type engine, and to expect bent or broken valves. Someone else with 240 experience said it was a non-interference engine. Anyone know which it is?

Single cam B230 engines are non-interference motors.

You guy was thinking of the dual cam engines, which ARE interference.

Thanks to you both for replying! I thought I had heard that my motor was a non-interference type, but wanted to make sure before shooting off my mouth at the garage. Some fellas don't appreciate a woman knowing much about cars! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/liebe011.gif)
