I just picked up a 97 850. The speedometer reads miles per hour but doesn't click off the milage. Is there more than one pick up for the speedo or if it is reading mph and the milage is not being recorded than the speedo is NG ?
HELP.

Wade

There is a gear in the odometer motor that will need to be replaced.

The gear is very small and cheap to replace. But the labor will cost a lot.

A PERFECT DIY thing to do!

We have a 1997 850 GLT that the speedometer stuck at 149,000 and we now have over 181,000... we decided NOT to fix it because it was so costly. We really haven't missed it either... the Service light comes on every 5000 miles to ensure we get our oil change, and when we go to Volvo we have them read the mileage from the computer.

BUT... if it is semi-easy to replace??? I would be interested in knowing how? But I am not much of a mechanic.. I used to be when we still had carborators.... javascript:emoticon('')

Let me know if you fixed it!javascript:emoticon('')
