I have an 85 740 w/AT. It will idle, but when I step on the accelerator, it dies.
It will rev up, if I go very slowly.

I replaced both fuel pumps, and filters, plugs & wires, and still no change.
Any ideas on what to check next?

I'll save Tech a post here  and suggest that you find the idle motor and clean it, as well as the throttle body. Did mine after similar symptoms, and greatly improved. If it persists, check your manual and test the throttle position sensor, and if you haven't already, replace the air filter. Looks like you've done some other key "first things". Good luck Oh-you might want to check your timing as well, and inspect cap/rotor.

You can also try to unplug the mass flow sensor and see if it runs a little better.
If it does then the mass flow is bad.

Sometimes the mass flow act the opposite way when bad.It won't start. Then unplug the mass flow and if it starts it is bad.
