I've joined in the complaining about the lack of an interior trunk release, but I had no idea that I could hit the "open door" button and when all the doors are open, the trunk can be opened without the remote by pressing the black rubber strip in the dead center of the trunk lip, near the lights and the emergency key entrance. I feel like an **** for not knowing for 2 1/2 years -- but I still haven't seen it mentioned anywhere in the manual.

I'm positive that everyone else knew this, but just in case I'm not the only one that missed this I thought I'd pass it on. By the way -- I didn't find this on my own. A guard at my building opened the trunk before I used the remote and I had no idea how he did it.... If only he had an answer for the turning radius....
Cheers all,

Ed

It is still no reason for these cars not having a proper trunk release button on the dash or door panel or somewhere. Even a 10,000.00 Kia has a power trunk release.

I don't really understand what the big deal is!
You have to lift the trunk up anyway if there was a release in the car and you would grab it to open it where the electrical release is anyway.

IMO it is better that there isn't one inside.

its my only fault with the car....everything else is awsome....this really lets it down.

Huh??? No, when you push the trunk release button on my other car or any others I know of, the trunk pops open all the way.

That is because of heavy pressure from springs or shock. But not all cars with trunk releases open the trunk all the way.

All I can say is: I'm satisfied that there's a way to open the trunk without shutting off the engine and using the remote. Beyond that, I don't care that the trunk won't actually open until I'm there to press the button and lift the lid. My biggest criticism now is for the owners manual writers -- I looked and it's not mentioned (at least not directly.) My apologies to my car for my harsh criticisms for this "defect." Thanks all for the comments.

Wow.... lots of different opinions on this issue. Knowing Volvo and safety I am sure the trunk shocks intentionally do not lift the lid up for a reason. As for an interior release, I do not find it of any benefit to have one. Like Tech says you need to get out and either open and close the lid at some point or at the very least close it and any car, we must be getting spoiled. For me its not an issue, I love the car, as for the turning circle use the hand brake and spin it. Just Kidding

What is the big deal about reaching down and double clicking the remote? Why stop the car? I open my trunk, fromt he remopte, white the car is running all the time...... click, click and it's done.

and the release only works once per door cycle it seems. I opened it, closed it, and it wouldn't re-open via the exterior release. had to lock, then unlock to use it again.

I can't open mine with the remote while the engine is running -- I wouldn't have minded if I could, but it seems to be a safety feature. I tried a number of times -- inside the car, outside the car, but with no luck. Because of security at my building, stopping the car to open the trunk each time became a pain. Like I said at the beginning of the string, I'm just happy that there is an interior release.

EdinDC you are correct. The key fog trunk release button will not open the trunk when the car is running on mine either.

I do not think I know of a single car made without a trunk release button.

Hello,

I just found this forum while looking for some information about the trunk on the S60. I just went to open my trunk and it is not opening. I have a 2005 and it was just working the other day. Any thoughts to why this could be happening?

Thanks so much!

Make sure ALL of the doors are unlocked. If u unlock only the driver's door, the trunk won't open.
