Hi,

New member. I'm looking for recommendations on replacement tires for 2003 Volvo XC90 T6, 235-65-17. The OE tires lasted about 20-25k.

I live in Colorado and have dedicated snows but the tires should be all-season because of the inevitable late spring or early fall snow storms, especially in the mountains.

I'm interested in good handling on the highway, low-noise and long-life.

Right now I'm considering the Michelin Energy MXV4 but not sure how the handling on these would be, especially compared with the OEMs. There seems to be good early reviews for the Goodyear Fortera SilentArmor on Grand Cherokees and Forerunners but I'm not sure if this is more of an all-terrain tire. The guy at the local Discount Tire was pushing these.

Thanks for any help.
Phil

Thanks, already checked there. TireRack comes up with the Michelin Energy MXV4s or Goodyear Eagle RS-As, which don't seem to get very good user reviews.

I had the Eagle RS-A on a Jeep Cherokee, and did not like them. Would not buy those again. Also, for tires like Toyo and Nitto, I think you can find those as Tires.com or their web sites--if u didnt get many results at the Tire Rack

I only use Michelins on all my vehicles. I am running the Hydroedge on my S60 and also on my daughters Toyota Camry. I've been really pleased with them. I wont even shop for any other brand of tire. I've got a set of LT M&S on my Tahoe. Have 41K on them and looks like I've got another 40K worth of tread left.

Do not pur coopers on the XC90. Our XC90 also wore out the Perelli's after 20K miles. We put on Coopers (which I have used a lot on other vehicles) and we can not hear each other talk in the car now.

Any one know how the Michelin's work?

Michelins give a nice soft ride for an SUV but wear out quickly - mine wore out in less than 30,000 miles. To get the softer ride they use a softer rubber which wears out quickly - you pay your money and pick a soft ride or tire life - can't have both

I have a 2004 xc90 and am currently looking for 235/65/17 replacement tires also. The Michelin Synchrone's that came from the factory have lasted 40k. I am looking for a long life tire, hopefully 50-60k. I will only buy Michelin and have been looking at the AT2 or AS. You can go to michelinman.com and check the treadwear ratings and the traction ratings. I think I am leaning towards the AT2 for the treadwear life. Anyone have any suggestions on tires ???

I have th eMichelin pilots on mine. Not really a goog comparison but on my old 78 Bronco I had use BF Goodrichs' and they lasted a long time. good in the snow and the mud. Crappy as hell in the dry as they were LOUD!!!!! Hope that helps. Also, remember that the size you want were way smaller than what I had on the ol' Bronc.

The most popular tire I know of on the XC90 is Nokian WR SUV 235/65R17. This is an all-weather tires with a UTQG rating of 500/A/A. Tiresbyweb.com has them in stock and with the enthusiast club discount will be shipped $178 each. Contact Josh

Hi, I had the same issue. I have an xc 90, 2007, and my tires only lasted 24k miles. There must be a problem with this vehicle. There are multiple people wiht the same issue. Has anyone had any resolution with Volvo?

I've been a Michelin fan / user in the past also, but don't like the reviews that I see lately as far as wear goes. I talked to an independent tire dealer lately that highly recommended trying a set of Kumho tires. Never heard of them, but can't find any bad posts either. My XC90 has the 18" rims, so I am looking for 235/60R18.
They have a rating of 600 A A that I don't really believe.
