My sunglasses slipped between the cup holder and the center well. I can see them, but can't get at them.

My Volvo dealer says that it'll be about $100 + an hour labor to remove the covering and free up the shades.

All I'd want to do is remove the flip lid of the center well.

Is that doable?

It should be doable by removing the cupholder insert and unscrewing the covering. If that wont work wouldn't it be cheaper to just buy some new sunglasses? :shades:

HAHAHA...

I believe your Volvo dealer is just trying to make a few really fast bucks.

I bet you he'll tell you to leave the car for a few hours, when all he'll actually need is just about 3 minutes tops! Well, don't fall into the trap.

Go to the accessories store. There is this product, i am very sorry I don't know what it is called. Chances are you'll find it at a Japanese car accesories store - as this was where I got mine. Sorry don't have a photo of it, but I'll describe it to you.

It is a long one, about 60cm long but the size of a pencil only. It is steel-braided and thus is very flexible. On one end, there will be hidable clamps that folds themselves neatly back into the braided steel. On the oother end, there is a mechanism for holding and pushing the device.

The way it works is that, you press the handle and correspondingly, the clamps 'legs' on the other end of rod would emerge out of the braided steel hose. If you let go of the handle, it will 'catch' anything in its path.

I don't know what this is called. But I bought it, and use it to device my way around the engine to 'catch-hold' of loose cables, or hoses that have came off etc.

The thing is that, if the space is big enough for your sunshades to slip through, trust me, it will be big enough for the pencil-size steel-braided hose to get to it.

Once you get this rod. Keep it! There are thousands of other ways you can make use of it later.

:)

Good luck!

OK, got it!

Look for this Claw Pickup Tool and keep one in the car for future use. :)
