I brought my car into a volvo dealership. I left the car overnight.
When i picked the car up I noticed that something was splashed all over my car, but didn't notice the extent until returning home.
When I tried to wipe if off the paint came off the car. It has ruined the paint, It's all over.
Very upset. This car is was in mint condition, now it's a mess. I left a message for volvo but have not heard back.
jj

what should i do?

This is what they did...

oil change
replaced upper torque mount
replaced the brake bulb and all others

looking at the notes, it says client request to perform service campaign fuel tank inspection. I did not ask for this, but they installed rubber cushions (did not charge me)

checked the dashboard, found a crack (did not replace-too expensive)

checked brakes, found them to be in good shape

checked radio, they cleaned and tightened all ground connections, but radio is still not so great

that's it, I am very upset. The paint on this car was perfect. I left a message with the service manager when I got home, so I will wait for his call. I hope they do not give me a hard time.
I need to know what to ask for and what to expect.

I wouldn't wait for his call I would go there and show him.
Do you have any pics of the car before you took it to them.If so I would bring them with you to be safe.Make sure you act really upset like I know you are.Don't be a nice guy.

I am going in tomorrow morning.
I don't have any pictures, we just got the car a couple months ago. The first owner may have pictures. I heard that dealerships do not always do the best paint jobs.
I will let you know what gives tomorrow.
thanks

WTF...???

Tech is right. Don't be a nice guy on this! This is where when you show that you are nice and reasonable, they will try to avoid being responsible for it. :mad2:

I found a scratch once on the bottom part of my left rear door, and I complained to the mechanic. Of course, NOBODY in the whole workshop knew HOW it got there in the first place. Don't expect anyone to take responsibility - as they knew the repair costs is quite high (repaint). But at least they gave me free on the works after that. :mad2::mad2::mad2:

It wasn't a cure to my heart, but at least they learned that I know (at least the external parts of ) my car very well - so don't try to bull their way through anything.

We brought the car in today. Upon inspection they said that they cleaned the car and what you see is spilled degreaser. The guy must have been on drugs, it's all over the car!
They said they will detail the outside of the car, that will get it out.

I just got a call saying that I can pick up the car and it looks great, we will see.

My concern is the degreaser took the paint off my car, when I asked the guy he said it will be fine.

The chemical ingredients of a degreaser DOES have the properties to wear off paint!

Better be sure about it.

P/S:
Spilled degreaser? They must be fooling around if that really happened.

How can I be sure about it?

If the stains are gone, then it worked, right? or will the stains come back?

Well, how does the car look now?

I am not sure what they used to clean the degreaser off, but lots of water and soap may be able to cleanse it right.

If the colour of your car has not faded, especially at the area where it is supposed to, then I guess it is OK. But again, you'd only know it, after quite some time.

This is a tough one. They got most of it out. but I do see some spots that have faded the paint.
You would have to look up close. Now what should I do? Ask them to let me take it somewhere else to be detailed? do I ask to look at the ingredients of the product?
this sucks.

PS

are you saying that even though the car can look good now, it could fade in the area where the degreaser was sprayed? and if that is the case, how do I deal with that and the volvo dealership?
do I ask bring that point up to him?

No, only that the area that has been exposed to the degreaser might have 'eaten' up the paint (i.e.corroded) like what you mentioned that the paint have faded if seen from close. :alien:

What you could do now is:-

1) As you suggested:- Get them to foot the bill for you to get it detailed somewhere else (I doubt they would, though)
2) Live with it.

The choice is pretty much yours.

The ingredient are pretty much the same - but the fact that they are highly flammable is the thing you should take note. Some labels claim that the liquid will not harm paint work. But try leaving it on for a night and you'll get the same as yours.

I brought the car back to the dealership, and the manager agreed that there is still a problem.
They are sending it out next week to get detailed. (I thought that's what they did the first time!) So we will see.
I did bring it to my paint guy and he told me to give them another shot at getting it right.
Will let you know the final outcome next week. Thanks for everything!

I picked up the car yesterday and it looks like they got it all out, but I will be looking
and watching all week for anything I may have missed. When I got in my car to drive
away there was a note in my car saying "if you ever want to sell, call me, with the guys
name and number" I asked the manager who put this in my car, and he said some guy was
looking at it while waiting for his car at the dealership, and he must have slipped it in.

thank you expert and tech. My car still looks great. The only thing I have to fix is the dashboard
but I have to save for that.
