Hello. I have a 1996 850 nonturbo with 220,000 miles. Now I just purchased this car and have no idea what kind was used before me. Oh, and how many quarts does this car need? Thank you.

Hello, and welcome to the forum.

So, I will have some questions that I hope you can tell us.

What state are you in? I use 5w-30 Castrol in the winter and 10w-40 in the summer. Thinner is better because the lifters to tick as much.

1. Have you pulled codes on the car? If not, please do so.
2. Is there a sticker on the timing belt cover when the belt was done last?
3. Is it a automatic? What does the transmission fluid look like? Does it smell clean or burnt?

Let us know

The only 15w-40 I can find is in a Walmart in Crenshaw Blvd of all places.

Its made by Rotella? a Shell brand.

Ca I just used a 5w-40 or 10w-40?

Would I be taking a risk if I used something like 10w-30 fully synthetic oil?

I personally prefer synthetics but I won't buck the collective wisdom.

Also is the Blue stuff called SuperTech a Pep Boy brand? is it garbage?

Hi,
Excuse my ignorance - are these specs applicable to a '97? I think the fuse is blown on my cigarette lighter and I want to check.

Thanks.
