Is there a specific type of power steering fluid to use for my 89 760 gle?
I can only find brands that say "for domestic cars" or "for Honda Cars" Is there one for "European Cars" or will the domestic stuff do? Also, since I am out on the road and my girlfriend is at home with the car, can you please describe for her where to pour the fluid into? I have never added any to this car so I am not exactly sure. Thanx....sorry for the dumb questions! |

I just had to put some in mine just recently. Any powersteering fluid should work, I believe honda is the only car that has a requirement for its own type of fluid.

It's not a dumb question -- but the answer may be a bit strange. You can check your owner's manual (if you don't have one, you can look it up on volvocars.us under "owners" -- pick the year and model and you can see the manual). Mine takes ATF. Yep, automatic transmission fluid for the power steering is what Volvo says it takes. I wouldn't swear that's true for yours but take a look.

Well, I took a look on "www.volvocars.us" under owner info, and then searched "library" for the owner's manual -- and it's not listed for an 89 760. Other 89s, a 91 that I checked, and my S60 all take ATF, so I would guess that yours does also. The folks at the auto parts store might be able to look it up for you.

Pretty much everything up till 1999 uses ATF.In 1999 they made a special fluid that it is supposed to use or it will burn the pump up.
You can use ATF in the cars up to 1998. |
