Drives: 1987 Volvo 740GLE
Wanted to change the tranny fluid on a '87 740GLE. Owners manual calls for Dexron II D. Last time at AutoZone they only had Dexron III. Do they still make the other stuff? Is there suitable replacement? Car has 177K miles and I would like to keep it going for a couple more years (daughters car for college). The Haynes manual doesn't say anything about a filter, is there one? I thought I read somewhere about just dropping pan and adding that much fluid back and not flushing entire system.

Dextron III will work fine.
There is a filter but it is a pain to get to you should be fine with the drain and refill.
