I'm looking at purchasing a 1994 940 Turbo wagon. The biggest problem is this: when the headlights are ON, the dash lights (and the fuel gauge) are OFF. When the headlights are OFF, the fuel gauge works ok. Any ideas? I'm interested in finding out if this is a relatively simple fix, or an expensive one that might break the deal. Thanks!

Does the car stil have the factory radio?
Or did someone install an Aftermarket radio?

Factory radio. That has a problem of its own but I don't think it's related - while changing the volume the radio delivers all static until you get your hand off the volume control knob, then it seems ok.

The volume switch in the radio is bad.You can try to clean it out with contact cleaner.

Could also be a bad healight switch. If not then there is a short somewhere.
