I have had a 2007 XC90 for about 8 months now. Purchased with 13,800 miles on it. Went through first scheduled oil change 7,500 miles after with no issues. This week when I am 200 miles away (28,600 miles) from next oil change the low oil message light comes on (yellow, not red warning.) I checked the oil and the first dip stick twist was barely covered with oil.

Inserted 2 quarts of oil and then took it to the dealer this morning. They claim there are no leaks and that it's normal for Volvos to burn a quart of oil every 1,000 miles. Is this the case?

I have never had a car run through all of the oil prior to the next oil change, after all it's a change not re-fill.

Have other owners experienced this? How often should I expect to put additional oil in between oil changes?

I saw one mechanic notice out there for an issue with the camshaft end plugs but my car was built in March 2007 prior to this issue which began with December 2007 engines.

Any thoughts or feedback is greatly appreciated!

I don't know what the factory problem consumption rate is (I think its 1 qt/1000 miles); but with a similar concern on a V8 XC90, I was told that after an oil change, they would verify the oil level, seal the dipstick and mark the drain bolt and you would bring it back after a 1000 miles. If the oil consumption is beyond a rate, then the factory warranty would kick in. In my case, I called them after I changed the oil and they changed the terms and they have to change the oil so it will go in for a test on the next oil change.
